installed HU, now HVAC doesn't light up...

just like the title says. i put in a new head unit last weekend, put everything back together, and a few things don't light up anymore. the HVAC selector things light up, but the hazards button doesn't, and some of the HVAC stuff doesn't either.

car is a 96 SE, if it makes a difference.

i checked all the relevant fuses, and they were all good. everything functions fine, it's just that some stuff doesn't light up when i turn the lights on. should i check every fuse, or is it some sort of wiring problem? i didn't mess with the wiring at all though - besides splicing in the new head unit to the speaker wire. everything else, i just unplugged and then plugged back in when i was done.

same thing happened to me and I am going to just end up replacing most of them with LED's this summer. No idea why it happened either but now the only thing that lights up on my dash is the clock, main hvac screen and my HU. Its so annoying. I believe you can replace the bulbs in the HVAC if it is an auto one but I Would buy the bulbs online since the stealership will rip you.

Sounds to me like you might just have a loose wiring harness.

Did you buy a harness or cut into the exisiting wires? If you cut into the existing ones you may be using a illumination wire for ground.

i bought a harness from circuit city, but it ended up being worthless.

that's a possibility - there was already an aftermarket head unit in the car when i bought it (complete crap though), and the wiring was covered with electrical tape. i pulled it off, but the wires were all black and sticky. i was having trouble reading the words on them...

i'm pretty sure it's NOT a loose wiring harness, i pulled them all out and put them back in...

thanks for the replies...

Check your fuses, the taillight fuse and dash lights are 1. If the fuse is blown and when you try to replace it, it blows again then its a mismatched wire. Other than that check to see if any of teh illumination wires are connected to the deck. You can also try and disconnect all the wires on the HU except for the 12 volt, GRND, and ACC to see if that changes the situation.
