Steering wheel controls in 4th gen

Ok I am just wondering about the plausibility of this as it has randomly popped in my head for my future plans. Basically I am wondering if it would be possible to adapt either the 5th gen controls onto a 4th gen steering wheel or some other control from another car and then wire it into my alpine 9815 using the pac module. I mean are the controls in the 5th gen independantly wired from any other huge systems.

This just hit me as something I would like since I am on the road so much and am sick of fiddling with the hu while driving to try and find what I need.

I believe that 4th gen steering wheels and the 2000 steering wheel are the same. If the airbag systems are 100% identical to those of 2001-2003, you may be able to swap wheels. But keep in mind, the response of the pac interface isn't as quick as oem, there is a slight delay. The cool thing is that you can program combinations of buttons. For my setup, I have it that if I press both volume buttons, the radio mutes, or both up and down arrow, that jumps to the next mp3 folder.

... what u can do is.. go find a pathfinder or qx4 or even a nissan quest.. and take it form that.. junked or even dealer.. they use the same steering wheel... and speiclaly the pathfinder.. and qx4.... the only problem is runnign wiring via clock spring... but i guess sicn ethe same wheel it should work.. if u notice next ot the left side of the steering wheel... straight across from teh cruise control.... there is a plastic covering that covers the port where the volume controle is ... = ) ive thought about this..... once i do teh navi/bose install from teh qx im gonna go get the volume control form teh qx... hehe
