Is Hifonics still a good audio company

My friend is gonna intro me to his friend who is selling a hifonics sub, a 1600 watt rms goliath, from what he told me. he was running this system with a hifonics 1500 watt rms amp, im guessing its the brutus. he said the system really pounds and from his ears was on par with a W7 with equal power.

i know hifonics amps are pretty bad ***, and for the price they cant be beat, i actually wanted the amp but its is sold. he really wants to get rid of the sub, i jus wanted to know if any of you have any experience with their subs, i honestly didnt know they made subs, then again i been out the audio tuner scene for like 3 years. is the sub worth buying, how much should i ask, on ebay they are at 279 and up. ill probably low ball him at 180. p.s this comes with the encloseur, im hoping its in a ported box sizeble enough to fit in my car.

are the amps still good, i may get myself whatever is the newest model brutus

whoa jus seen a 10,000 watt rms amp on their site, that is crazy lol.

i know alot of ppl with the hifonics brutus amp. there pretty good but i dont know how good there reliability wise. many people use them for high wattage systems so i doubt its garbage. my cousin has a hifonics sub, its the one with a blue led in the dust cap, 180 for a sub and the box? hhm i dont know if you want to buy it used. if he had it powered by a brutus it probably took some beating

I think the Hifonics amps r a very good considering the price...there r better things out there, but u can't beat the price. As far as the sub goes i have never heard of anybody using one, so i can't speak from experience, but i wouldn't waste my money on it.

Just my .02...

The Hifonics are just as good as any other basic equipment out there... but one thing..... They are MUCH more reliable than any other basic equipment out there, they'll last, great value for the money.

so im catchin muxed revies on the reliability, i think tey are pretty reliable. i mean almost any company will have problems if your bangin it hard and pushing its limits.

im redoing my whole system, which is why i asked and i really want to do it right this time. as far as the amp i think im def goin with a brutus, unless someone can come up with a better amp for around the same price.

as far as sub, im gonna bring my car over there and use my amp to test it and see how it does, my amp is crappy as hell but its good enough to pound it for a while to make sure its okay, i spoke with him and its in a generic sealed box so box is like 15 bux new. i told him if it all works well ill take it for 180 which i now think i prob coulda got it cheaper. DAMN... he said he just got a new SLK benz and it wont fit in there with the roof and all, so he wants to sell it to get a basslink.

ill keep u posted, any other advice????

OVERRATED in EVERY aspect from power ratings to people claiming they are reliable. they are a notch higher than rockwood, volfennuts, etc but people bench test these amps and find surprising results.

not to mention 14.4v is not easily attained in a car when "1500" watts are being drawn from the electrical system. id give the amp 1100 watts rms for "real" use.

i understand that completely, 14.4v is not run of the mill everyday power, i guess hifonics cant reach their rms wattage without having an exceptionaly high voltage

its not exceptionally high...people shoot for around 14.4 and alot of manufaturers use 14.4. its when some companies rate at 17v is when its bad. the problem with that bench test was .1 distortion at 14.4 volts and it still did not hit its rated power.

how do you safely get the voltage up to run the amplifiers wattage. my friend was telling me about in line boosters you put in the power cable between the batery and the amp. is this true? is it safe? i asume you would def need a nice batery, would there need to be an altenator upgrade?

im goin to see the sub right now, ill let you know if i buy it.

I have a hifonics amp and have been using it for 8 months. It still perfectly fine and if it breaks I'll send it back since it's still under warranty. I have one running my hi's and I'm very pleased with it. I don't know if that bench testing thread is something to go by because all those bench tests have been done by different people. Unless you know exactly how they did the bench test and they were all done the same exact way then I'll take it. I had previously read that the jbl 1200.1 put out over 1400 watts rms @ 13.5v where somebody on that thread only got 1000 or so watts with 12.7v.

I never heard of an in line booster to go on your power cable between the battery and amp, but you should install it first before worrying about your alternator and battery and see if you actually need upgrades.

magic- really check out that sub before you buy... do not rush into car audio trust me its worth researching alot.
baxtel- i completely see your side because thre are many variables to bench test an amp. however, i just picked that one thread because its the only recent one ive found with the bx1500 in it. ive seen about 4-5 different bench tests on that amp and all of them have been BELOW rated power. my only real point is that out of every bench test the power has been down, not even doing rated power or above it. the jbl amp i have seen do as much as 1400 and as low as around 1050 before. but this could mean a few things... the jbl powervalve series is not as tightly regulated as hifonics brutus amps are, the testing was way off in all of the bench tests, or the hifonics amp just doesnt do rated power.

thanx for all the help guys.

i saw the sub and i must admit it is pretty nice, we hooked it up to my friends amp and it did bang out pretty nice. not exactly an SQ type sub, def made for SPL. bass wasnt too clean but thats not what im lookin for anyway, im just lookin for somethin to bang when i want to show off lol.

we played various songs and messed with it for 25 mins while we talked, it def has good bang, the box is a basic run of the mill pre fabed box. i originaly told this dude 180 on the phone and he agreed, i dont know what happened between then and now, cause now he wants 300. the most i wanted to shell out was 230, he said he'll let me know by the end of the week if he cant sell it for 300.

ill admit it is a pretty nice sub, kinda heavy tho, i wanted everything to be as light as possible lol, reason why i went down from 3 12's to a single sub setup with my audiobahns.

well for now i am just gonna look and review other subs before i make my decision, want to make sure i get my best bang for the buck

thanx guys
