Add-on navi...Alpine, Pioneer, or Kenwood?
I have an Eclipse flip-out monitor (couple years old, non-touchscreen) & want to add navigation via one of the available a/v inputs.
The only remote-mount nav systems that I know of that support aftermarket monitors other than their own are Alpine, Pioneer, & Kenwood.
I need some more info/opinions/suggestions regarding the following in terms of functionality/user-friendliness/perfomance:
1) Alpine NVE-852A : the most expensive out of this bunch.
2) Pioneer AVIC-80DVD, -88DVD, -90DVD, -9DVD (What are the differences between these?)
3) Kenwood KNA-DV3100, -DV4100 (What are the differences between these?)

cept with an N2, you can't have the front monitor playing a dvd while driving..its not easily overriden either..not that you'd wanna watch it while driving, but the passenger in the right seat might.

pioneer n1 and n2 look real good but pre amp volts suck and i hear u cant use the navi on the n2 when driving cause of some ebrake setup u cant override. I have the eclipse AVN 5435 and love it. Much MUCH higher pre volts, touch screen, navi....the omega of navi multifunction head units

I have the AV8022. Yes, you can add navi to it. That's the point of me starting this thread. You have to make sure that whichever navi unit you get can interface with any monitor via the usual A/V RCA cables AND make sure that it'll support non-touchscreen.
When I got the AV8022 a couple years ago, the E-Com Commander Advance (with navi add-on) was scheduled to come out. I waited and waited...and found out that Eclipse wasn't going to release navi support for the AV8022 anymore...and instead released its AVN series....DOH!!!!
Well guys, since starting this thread a week ago, I've decided to spend my money on a pocket pc, the latest and greatest bluetooth SiRF III GPS receiver (I believe car navi systems only use SiRF II. SiRF III has much better sensitivity.), and iGuidance tracking/mapping software (based on NavTech map database...just like most car navi systems). In-car navi on a monitor looks cool, but I think the portability of a ppc/gps system can't be beat. Not to mention the fact that I can use a ppc for many other things as well.

Now if you want to get Really technical, Navi was in fact available from Eclipse since 2001, just nothing like what it is today. It was available for all HUs with or without video.

This is my opinion. You go to a car audio place, use both, then tell me what you think. I work for a company that makes navigation equipment and Kenwood has the best interface out right now on the Car Audio market. As far as I know they were the first to come up with the 3D mapping instead of just the bird's eye view mapping.
