I know this is a repost, but i have major (alternator) speaker whine coming from my rear infinities. It seems to me that speaker whine is particular to a person's car and setup, there isn't just a simple answer, so don't flame me!

Here's the problem exactly: Ever since I hooked up my fosgate amp to my infinity kappa 6x9's i have had speaker whine. This means the whine has nothing to do with the sub, or sub amp, as it didn't whine before. Im using 6 gauge wire for the ground, and at first i had a distributor for the ground going to both amps, i thought that was the problem. So from there i grounded each amp separately at the same location, so there can't be a ground loop unless you include the ground from the HU.. This ground setup made it WORSE. It was even louder, and more ear piercing. If i turn the high levels down from my head unit to the kappas, the whine goes down, but doesn't eliminate it. The whine is only there when my car is running, and it does grow louder as i travel faster (goes with the Rpms)..

Does ANY ONE have ANY suggestions?!?!? please i beg you!
For all of you that have amped internals and subs, did you set your system up differently? did you use a cap? an optima battery?

 

I had a similar problem and got rid of it by cleaning the ground points really, really well and tightening them as much as possible. The main problem I had was from where the HU was grounded so you might wanna try checking that out. Good Luck!

 

u can buy my monster cable noise eliminator for 15 bucks.... it would help.... http://www.monstercable.com/caraudio...r.asp?pin=2730 sorry had to do a little sales pitch but i drilled a hold in my spare tire well...on the side lower right of the tire.....used i think a 5/16 bolt and nut stainless steel....and i have like no engine noise, and if i do, i cant hear it...... but as u say, each car might be diffrent.....

 

oh and my radio ground i didnt use the factory wire in the harness, i made my own, theres some sweet all metal bar/braces back in there! stainless nut and bolt.... didnt even have too drill...was several holes open already.

 

Sorry dude, but Monster is teh WORST cable you can put in your car.

Go with Stinger, or better yet, KnuKonceptz

 

its just the noise eliminator. but it worked for me, in my wrangler or i wouldnt offer it.....but my wire is stinger :O all 88 feet of speaker wire and 25 feet of 4 gauge and the RCas and blocks.... monster is just pricy.....

 

It sucks, end of story. Why do you think it is so expensive? Because you have to go through a middleman who takes a nice chunk of change in the process.

The most important thing about a good wire is how tightly its wound and the strand count. Monster has NEVER disclosed either of these, just gives it fancy titles like "XLN" and claims to be better because it is sheilded in umpteen-layers of recycled tampons.

 

well it worked for me, end of story part 2! lol im kiddin man..... it was just a suggestion, for a part ive used, and worked for me(thats all i know about it and monster in general).....i could careless about the rest of monsters product line, since i use stinger myself... here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WD1V the stinger ground loop isolator....screw the monster one i have....

hmm...make sure the gounding point(s) are secure and free of any paint/dirt/crap

 

i wouldn't say they are the worst. THX won't give a product their stamp of approval if qualities aren't met.

Monster THX certified RCA and such cables = as good as anything else on the market.

Go here and scroll to the bottom of the page. Hit one of the muting wmv's. It'll show you how to make a muting plug. Use them on the RCA inputs of the last electronic piece of your stereo system [usually the amp]. If the noise goes away, you know it's not coming from the amp. Continue up the chain by muting the electronic xover [for example], all the way to the last piece of electronic equipment [in a head-unit, amp, speakers-type set up, you only need to mute the amp]. If the noise is still present, it may be coming from a poor ground [it sounds like you've exhausted that possibility], the component xovers [move them around to see if the noise gets better/worse], or possibly the speaker wire itself [I doubt it].

If the noise did go away when you muted the amp, try moving the RCA's or a new set of RCA's entirely. First run them outside of the car, to see if the noise is inducted by the cables themselves. If there's still noise, you may have to find a better ground for the head unit, or isolate the head unit entirely.

A lot of people usually jump straight to the grounds, because experience has taught them that it is often the culprit, but if you do it systematically you can save yourself some hassle.

check the way your speakers are mounted. you might need to put some foam from where the basket touches, and the metal of the car. also you might need to change your spark plugs. you might not have the resiting ones or whatever they are called in there, other than that make sure power and rcas arent by eachother

 

no need to put foam between the speaker and the chassis. also, it doesn't matter if you ran the power and rcas together. it won't bring noise into the system.

 

It could be the amp itself. I had a pioneer deq7600 that the remote got shorted out for a sec, and all of a sudden there was alternator whine in the system, I had to take it to get it fixed and they had to redo a ground wire within the unit. If the ground in the unit went bad or you have another component with a bad internal ground you can get real bad whine.

 

hrmm.. i hope the amp is okay.. thats gotta be rare tho..

im gonna clean the ground area better tonight and see if that makes a diff! if not, ill try one of the other suggestions from you guys..thanks

welp, cleaned the grounds really really well with a dremel, and a rough-grit wheel on a powered drill, both ground wire terminals and the ground spot, shiny silver metal, and whine is definetly less, but still there. anybody have any thoughts now? maybe ill try better RCAs.

EDIT:: my bad. i guess im just loosing it, the whine is still there, and still very loud and annoying.. ARG!!

 

At least try moving the RCA's around a little. Try running them outside of the car, to see if it's them inducting the noise or not. Also, if you're using components, try moving the xovers around a little.

also try a heavy battery to body ground, 4 ga or heavier, and try to make it as short as possible. Length isn't CRITICAL, but its not a bad idea to keep it short.

 

It might be your amp. My friend had a Kenwood amp that caused whine, we installed a RF amp and no more whine.

i had a problem somewhat like this, when i have a tape in (YES TAPE) (not now though) the syatem would kinda whine as i reved up it is probally something way diff

and also when i have the fm on and the volume low its fuzzy but when i turn it up its ok, i guess it just drowns out the fuzz
