I am getting 3 12" nakamichi subs. They are 200w rms/400w peak @ 4 ohms. I plan to wire them in parallel. I think this means they will play 600w rms @ 1.33ohms...correct me if i'm wrong. Does this mean that I will need an amp that will give 600w rms x1 @ 1 ohm?? I know the amp will have to be stable to 1 ohm, but i'm not sure how much power I will need. For example, if i buy a rockford fosgate 500.2 amp... 125x2 or 500x1 bridged @ 4ohms...will that work? Or do I need to get a monoblock amp that is stable to 1 ohm? Can you give me suggestions on amps I could use that aren't too expensive?

That RF amp won't work for that load. You'd need either a two-channel amp that's 1/2-ohm stable or a mono amp that's 1- or 1.33-ohm stable. Mmats makes an amp that's 1.33-ohm stable.

I don't know if this is another option, but if you could get the subs with a different load, then you could swing a different amp. I don't know if Nak makes their subs in the 12ohm variety, but but 3-12ohms wired in parallel will yield a 4ohm load, or even 3-6ohms wired in parallel will yield a 2ohm load. Finding an amp that is stable at 2ohms is much easier than finding an amp that's stable at 1ohm. This is just a suggestion and I don't even know if you can do it, but I wanted to put it out there for you. If you could even get 3-8ohms which most companies do make, then you could get down to a 2.66ohm load. Hope this helps!!

That's a good idea. I'll have to check on that. Which mmats amp is 1.33 stable and how much is it?

The Mmats D-200 H.C. is stable to 1 ohm, and is rated to put out 1200 watts at 1.3 ohms. The actual output is more, though.

You absolutely do not need that ampf for the nakamichi subs..Get the mmats d200 model. It puts out 600 watts at the same load and is almost half the price of the d200hc...Plus those subs won't take twice their power handling..

Thanks so much for your help...I'll see if I can find it. Do you think an audiobahn amp will do good?

You could get a mmats amp, but those are pretty expensive, they're more for competing. If i were you, i'd get jlaudio subs cuz they have ohmage made for 3 woofer systems.
