X-box indash mounting

I was reading road and tracks new magazine dedicated to mobile audio. the feature car is a 350z with just the x box disc tray in the dash and everything else behind the driver seat. i wanted to know if anyone has done this here. and how difficult it was. they didnt give any detail about that part of the install in the article.

I know this post needs pics. im not that talented yet.

To my knowledge it hasnt been done here, or on any other board Ive seen for that matter. Its a show-only type deal Ill bet. But I do know some xbox modding geniuses and Id bet it wouldnt be too hard of a feat.

To accomplish this you would move the Disc Drive of the XBOX to the front dash and use a really long ribbon cable to run back to the XBOX from the Disc Drive.

It's probably just for show... the drive is standard IDE, so there's a limitation on the cable length. You can probably relocate the drive without question, as long as it stays near the motherboard... then you can run everything else with extensions (controllers, video/audio, etc) to the back of the driver.

Definitely doable, but not just the drive. But if it's a modded xbox with some flavor of Linux and a USB dvd drive or something, then that's another story...

watch running long ribbon cable... its more likely to kink and have errors/problems TRUST ME, we have conducted numerous tests with drives and distances from the computers/xbox at my job... 99% of the problems found after something like above is the ribbon is slightly kinked half way down...
