Laugh at me,then help me (headunit install)
i put this panasonic headunit in a Saturn SL. My issue that i cant solve is, i dont know/cant find a way to secure the back of the HU, so the heavy back end of it doesnt sag down. So now,if you look at it from the front, the front of it is noticably tilted upwards like an extra inch. These directions say to put this screw into the back of the HU, then bolt it to the firewall. Problem is, directly behind the headunit is a plastic vent duct, running vertically from just above the floor, and itgoes all the way up to the top of the dash, so i cant screw into it. I tried cable ties around the back of the HU,strapped to some various metal parts back inside the dash, but i cant get in that small a space to slide the HU all the way in and still be able to tighten the cable ties. WTF can i do, im sweaty and mad
go up to a hardware store and poke around. I have found usefull stuff there to solve problems with my max.
no..but seriously, it sounds like you could possibly use an L braket to mount to the plastic vent so it makes a little plate for you to rest the HU on.

If the L bracket doesn't work I don't think it would hurt to drill into the duct, its plastic, drill the screw in, take it out, then coat the screw with silicone, and put it all back in and silicone around it as well and you should be good.
when i first saw the duct there and that it would definately be in the way no matter what,i briefly considered that, but its not my car. If it was my car, i still wouldnt have tried that without failing at 2-3 other ways first...i was thinking, this screw is gonna fall out one day and leave a giant hole.
well, no thanks to the people who have installed a hundred stereos but couldnt offer a response....all is installed and well. Nice, snug, flush, and secured. Also, relay and fuse replaced, so windows work once again. thanks sparkyssb,maxgtr2000, and grazzrootz. grazzroots, whereabouts is haddonfield? west jersey?
