4.5 sq ft of Cascade VB2 for rear deck?

I'm gonna be tossing in my rear coaxes soon and wanted to know if:

1. The VB2 is a solid dampening option for the rear deck.
2. If 4.5 sq. ft of it would do the trick coverage wise.

thanks

1) If its cascade it cant be too bad. Never used it though
2) No, I doubt thatll cover it. Just measure it, length x width = area, but I know Ive used way more than that doing other peoples cars/rear decks.

Thank you sir. I'll get the measuring tape out tomorrow.
Curious to know, what does Circuit City use for sound deadening stuff?

They use Dynacrap. Read the deadening sticky at the top, lots you can learn there. Also, don't shortchange yourself on the deadening...spend the few extra bucks, and have more than enough; as the old addage goes, "Better to have and not need then need and not have."

Actually, We use Tsunami now. We used to use Dynamat. The retards at Dynamat still honor our accomodation on it though, so I get bulk packs (36 sq ft) of Dynamat for 75 bucks. Im still going with Stinger on my car though.

I've had my attention on Stinger & Second Skin as well. Are you going with the Roadkill, Custom Roadkill or Overkill, or a little bit of each (or not so little) depending on which area you are dampening? Still a little unclear as to which product goes where. So for example, what Stinger product would you use for your rear deck? Would it be different than with what you would use for your doors?

I found the sticky very helpful. I've actually been wading through it for a few days now. Thank you for putting it together. It appeared with perfect timing with me being in the beginning stages of wanting to learn more about it and all. Better to have indeed!

Im going with 6 bulk packs (200+ sq ft) of Roadkill, the regular asphalt based stuff, not vinyl or whatever else they make. If you read Filtor1's post in the sticky, I am doing the exact same thing he did, plus the headliner which will be done soon on his car, so I wont bore you with a long explanation of everywhere its going.

I am going with Second Skin because I find their customer service to be top-notch. Right now they are selling their Damplifier Mat at B-Stock price ($85/40 sqft.) as opposed to the normal price of $155/40sqft. PLUS if you become a member of their audio forums, you can take 20% off the purchase! Ant (SS Owner) is a really stand-up, friendly guy. I am thrilled with their service.

I have 160sqft of Damplifier, 120 sqft of Spectrum, and 50sqft of Hazmat ready to go in the Max when I am ready for everything.

I can't wait. I am going to get a 7th bulk pack to finish the tops of the rear wheel wells and use what we had left to do the headliner. I still can't believe how well this stuff worked. Just let me know when you're ready.

1. Yes, Cascade makes a solid product.
2. No, you will need more. 4.5 sq ft will be enough to cover around the speaker mounting location only.

Thanks for your help gents.

Do these guys (Cascade, SS, Stinger) allow you to custom order the amounts you need or are you relegated to what they have prepackaged? (I know eDead does it by the sq. ft., but I was wondering if these guys do, or would)

I'm also curious to know about the aspahlt based stuff your using:

Does it or do you expect it to give off a "Tar like" smell?
(I've heard mention of the asphalt based stuff giving off that smell and was wondering if it's a product specific thing or a substantiated (or unsubstantiated) thing concerning all asphalt based products, regardless of who made it.

What is the difference between the asphalt based stuff and the vinyl stuff? (in terms of its dampening characteristics)

thanx

Ive only used the ashpalt based, foil-backed stuff, and in the 200+ sq ft I did in Filtor1's car, I didnt spell asphalt at all. Ive heard of this happening when people use the Home Depot brand Peel n Seel, or other cheap stuff though.

No, Ive never heard of companies custom ordering like that. Most come in small enough incriments so its not a big deal. Like Roadkill comes in packs of 1.4, 4, 12, 20, or 36 sq ft.

I just installed my SoundSplinter RLi-10" sub, pulling 420 watts and I don't have any interior rattles and very minimal exterior rattling. I am just wondering, do you guys just have outrageous systems or do you really hate that exterior rattle.

Side Note: I think it's cool how my rear deck-mounted brake light actually will jump up in the air when the bass hits. I'm guessing you guys just have more bass than me, but really I don't understand why anybody would want more. Then again, I'm sure I'll find a good reason to get some deadener soon enough.

I have split the sheet metal on my rear deck, I guess I must have more. I keep breaking the blue clips that attach the rear deck cover to itself and have just replaced a rear view mirror that fell of whilst I was bangin away. These TDX's should be renamed to the automotive destruction sub's LOL!!

I didn't have to cut. It split from the subs flexing the deck. If I had a 3rd or 4th gen where I couldn't put the rear seats down, I would cut it as well. It made a huge difference in my retired 3rd gen.
