Can we refocus to scores in a Maxima. I would love to hear more scores from our trunk cars.

I agree, this thread got way outta line. Only about 5 people followed the actual format. It woulda been nice so instead of asking what can I hit, you can come look at similar systems and get a idea.

I started with the original format... but then people started saying other people's posts were BS... I wonder where it all went wrong

I try to not call bs. I have to admit, 140+ on the dash with the sysytem in the trunk, it is very challenging to be in the high 140's-mid 150's. I have felt the urge to call people out, but tried not to. I think that's where it went wrong. Especially when I see posts about 1??.?ishDb. IMO, people should be able to back up thier scores with the score sheet, or atleast with the type of meter used.

The box isn't your average bandpass. It has fiberglass on the inside to help smooth out the air flowing through the port (it's not in the corners, it's a v-shape piece that's directly in front of the sub). It's also tuned pretty low (35 hz). For some reason it just plays everything very accurate.

I've heard ALOT of system's out there and I haven't heard cleaner bass than mine. I've heard louder but not cleaner and ALOT of people think the same thing. My best friend is the shop manager/installer at the largest/best audio shop in the state. I know my ****.
I'm friends with Alma Gates, does that make me an expert too?

That's where mine is a little bit more believable... older mic... on the dashboard... with the subs about 5 feet from it.

Exactly. When are you adding the new amp again?

Good post! I have been thinking the same about this thread for a while. To be honest with you, in all of the USAC, DB Drag, SLAP and IDBL competitions I have been to, I hardly ever see anyone hitting over 146 LEGAL from the trunk. I don't know where people get these numbers from, are they guesses or are they just estimates from friends? Either way it is discouraging for someone who has put alot of time and money into tunning their system to post a legit number like when the next post can be a claim of 155db w/ 500 watts and one sub....

The new MC1100D amp will be going later this year. Probably around November, if not then, Tax return next year.

I'm going to be busy with work from Aug-Oct. So that gives me some time to save up money (if the wife doesn't spend it all)

And the new setup should break 150db with the MC1100D amp. Especially since the port, and my tweeters point toward the middle of the dash.

1100 watts @ 1ohm pushing 4 Memphis M-Class 12" subs in a custom vented box. 500 watts shakes everything now (set off a car alarm yesterday )

Is this what your running in your Max? Just wondering, if you plan to break 150 on the TL with that power your gonna be very dissapointed. I could barely break 140 with 2200 watts, high tuned box and L7's.

Oh noo... that's not in my Maxima. My Maxima used more for blowing doors off ricers.

Here's what I have that setup stuffed into

The subs are already wired up for 1 ohm usuage. Current funding has limited me down to using a MC500D amp right now. And the amp is only rated for 2 ohms.

Here's a nice pic showing exactly how close the box is... see if you can find the vent

eh, setting off car alarms is nothing. not only does a healthy 1kW do it, but a simple CAI and b pipe has too, no joke

I don't doubt that... now the thing with the car alarm. I had my windows rolled up and was parked 2 cars down from it...

I was doing a possible cutoff test on my amp, 4 12"s with only 500 watt. It's got to overheat sometime. Funny part was it never did. Anyway... I had it going over at a friends apartment (can't do it at my house).

I plopped in a burnt disc. It went through about 4 tracks and finally got to the test track. Toward the end that sucker really started booming. I could feel it in my chest standing in front of it. All of sudden this damn car's alarm started going off. Scared the **** out of us. Guy got pissed too, was ranting and raving on his balcony. Something about calling the cops or something. I really didn't get what he was so pissed about. His damn alarm was louder than my system.

Till I rolled down the windows that is.

well seeing as the way you built that box, i'd say that's your daily driver, in which case 29hz is great....i really doubt you'd go through the trouble of carpeting your spl box..

Actually I wish I had built it... but I'm just getting to lazy. (you can thank my job for that) So I had the install done by Mobile FX. They do quality work (I don't let just anyone touch my truck)

I would build a seperate box for SPL... but to get that one out I have to remove my seats.

Ok... finally got it metered. Not too happy.

146.2 was my score for the competition.

The guys at Mobile FX did a pretune for me, and they got it to 146.7

Since I know my system a little bit better than they do... I used my own test cd and got a nice 147.1

Brand new TL mic, on the passenger floor board.

If they actually meterd my truck with the windows down... I'd blow that 147.1 by about another 1-2 decibels. If I have those babies fully cranked, you can't see straight, breath right, or have any hearing afterwards.

I can't wait to put in that MC1100D amp. Twice the power baby. Broken windows here I come.

Hell of a score. There was a guy at SBN with 2 SoloX12's and he did a 153 legal on the dash in a frikin Mountaneer. I thought your 4 12's could easily hang. Can't wait to see what happens with that new amp.

What's killing me is the small interior space. That's a reason why a SUV can pull a bigger score off than me.

What I'm still wondering about is the guy was saying my box did the best around 60hz. That's way off what it was originally tuned for. When I was playing the tracks off their cd during the comp, I was getting any of the nice feelings I'd normally get with my cds.

So for right now I'm claiming 146.2 as my score. Even though I managed a 147.1 after the competition.

smaller interior room is better for high numbers. That is why you see all the big boys building up their interiors to minimize space. A smaller area is easier to presurize than a larger one. Also, just because a box is tuned to a certain frequency, does ont mean that is where it is going to peak in your car. When in a vehicle you have what is know as a transfer function which dictates how an enclosure will react inside your vehicle.

Yeah I know all that... but the thing is my interior is just a little too small. A CRX hatchback has more room than I do. Plus the cd we were using was a copy of the hz ranges. My deck reads burnt cds... but that depends upon the quality of the burnt cd.

My deck just doesn't like verbatim cds all that well.

Oh well, I know where I sit. I can't wait to get the new amp.

I think I'll have it metered for each part I add now.

- MC1100D amp (hoping for 147.5-148.9)
- New deck (148.0-149.1)

I think with the right cd, I can break the 150. I have a feeling I'm going to need a HO alternator with that amp though. If I'm at idle and have the system fully up, my dash lights will slightly dim at night.
