Bose issues.....
Bose issues.....
Unfortunately, Im having a couple issues in my '01 I30.
1. The left side sounds weak compared to the right side. Its definitely not the "one side cuts out" issue because I never lose all audio on the left side, but its noticeably quieter than the right.
2. At higher volumes, it seems that the treble "disappears". Sound gets very muffled, almost like its overpowered by bass (but its definitely not that).
3. Sub sounds very distorted. Not really a huge issue yet, Im assuming its vibrating the back deck and making it sound much worse than it really is.
All issues show up on any input (CD, Radio, etc).
Ive been told that if it shows up on all inputs, its the amp. And if it showed up on only one input, it would be the head unit. Is this true?
Are there any known fixes for these issues? Car is out of warranty (guess maybe I should have sprung for the extended!) so going after Nissan is out of the question.
(And I know even thinking about keeping the Bose system is frowned upon
but I dont feel like putting aftermarket stuff into my '01 I30.....I dont drive it very much, so its probably not worth the effort).
Thanks in advance!

First off, thanks for your informative post. Going in depth as you did allows people to answer your questions without asking further questions. I appreciate it.
1)Is it both the left side speakers, or just the front? If you fade to the rear and sit in back, does it still have the problem?
2)The saying "no highs, no lows, must be Bose" comes to mind. Not quite sure.
3)Rear deck rattle is infamous in 5th gens (or the equivalent gen I30). Theres probably something rattling back there, because the Bose sub in my moms bone stock 00 SE rattles, but not as extensively as yours from the sounds of it.
There is some truth to the fact that if it happens on all inputs, its the amp, but anythings possible. If it were me troubleshooting, yes based on your input I would start with the amp, but I wouldnt eliminate the deck completely as being the problem. Ive seen crazy things with Bose.
Yes, keeping Bose is generally frowned upon. But unfortunately, it sounds like this is going to be your best option at this point, unless you can find a new amp on here or ebay for cheap.
Good luck man. Hopefully you can find a fix without having to buy a bunch of new stuff.

Kevin pretty much summed it up, and yes thatnks for the Informative post, rather than the generic "My stereo sounds like poop, help"
I would try looking in the for sale section for someone selling a Bose amp and or HU. You may possibly get lucky and find someone local that will let you try it first. This will eliminate the guesswork and possibly save some money on your end.

Well just FYI, although im not local, i have a 2000 maxima bose headunit and amp for sale, not sure if its the same radio that your car comes with but im sure one of these guys will know.... both work great, just removed cause i put a system in. would sell for whatever seems to be a fair price..... let me know if u have no luck fixing it and determin it needs to be replaced...
Thanks for the help guys!!
I didnt try sitting in back yet, Ill give that a shot tonight.
I think I might try to find an amp and start there. It sounds like no one likes the Bose stuff anyway, so it shouldnt be too hard to find (seventy5 already sent me a PM!!)
Thanks again!

It kinda sounds like your speakers are blown... but you're also having issues with the sub. Is it hooked to an amp? Many the HU can't handle it.... If I were you i'd test it with a new deck. Like get a $100 Pioneer from Walmart and if it works, then keep it, if not return it. They're ussually chill about it, even if it's open and clearly has been installed.
i got a 2003 with the bose and im gettin rid of it in a month you can buy everything its all new because i had nissan dealership replace everything before the lease goes up (i got 2000 miles left) hit me up on the PM if you want to, if not its cool
