Damn, I can't remember on a 97. I would doubt it though since CD-Rs weren't really popular around that time. My 01 it plays burned CDs. I can't really say for sure.

BOSE CD Player Error - can you help?

For whatever reason, I'm not yet activated to start a new thread, so I'll post here since it's on the same topic.

I HAVE been able to play CD-Rs in my 97 Maxima Bose CD player without any hitch. BUT, the other day, I played one and at one point, the disc froze up and the display showed "ERROR". (I suspect the CD-R itself had some embedded errors.) I ejected it and inserted another CD (a commercial one which had previously played without any problem), but the CD player remains stuck. It will not auto-play ANY CD as of now, does pull the CD in, but then after about 2-3 seconds, the display shows "ERROR" and the CD is automatically ejected. Is my CD Player officially shot, or is there anything I might be able to do to reset it's "brain"? i.e. maybe disconnect the battery for a few seconds? (Btw, I already tried to insert CD Laser Lens Cleaner Disc, but that too would not play.)

Please offer any suggestions you may have - I'm on the road a lot, and if I can't play my CDs, I'm gonna have to give in and buy an MP3 player after all! I really can't afford a large expense as I'm currently not working!

THANKS!

I am interested in buying a Bose HU if you are replacing it. Let me know if interested.
Thank you.

If you want to try and fix your player, you have to completely remove it, take the whole thing apart and re-solder, replace resistors on the power board. There are stickies with detailed instructions in the 4th gen section.

My 95 plays cd-r's and works great.
I bought it on ebay for $103 and sold the broken stereo for $50 to www.carstereohelp.com They have great write ups on how to remove the deck & even how to fix the 2 common problems for this deck.

if your having troubles playing burnt cd's try burning it at lower speeds. 4x is prolly ideal at the cost of time. People w/ newer systems dont really need to burn at lower speeds. Also you have to take into considerations that most cd burners do have significant PI errors, so errors can appear in any model bose. You can spend a lil more money on a good burner like plextor which burns w/ the least PI errors... Media, Burners, and program used to burn can affect the effectiveness to read the disc
