Good quality or not?

I've had sony explode speakers in my car for a few months and of course they suck and they sound like crap. And now for some reason my deck will just turn itself up whenever I brake hard (wierd, huh?) and at other seemingly random times but thats not what my question is about. Here it is...I'm getting a new deck, its gonna be either a Panasonic CQ-C8100U
or an Alpine CDE-9843. and the speakers are gonna be 6 1/2 Alpine SPS-170A and 6x9 Alpine SPS-690A. I just wanna know if this is gonna be a good setup or not. o h yeah I want to get the Alpine MRP-F240 amplifier for the speakers but i dont think I can afford it. Any input/thoughts would be much appreciated.

The 170A's are good speakers for the money IMO. Should be a noticeable improvement over the xplode's.

Then they were tuned wrong. The Type R's 5.25's I had back in the day sounded decent, and the ones I just spent 1.5 hrs tuning, in Filtor1's car off an Alpine V12 4 ch, now sound excellent for what they are.

6 x 9 s = teh suck.

Music was intended to be reproduced through a circular cone, not a football shaped one.*

so do you think I should just go with 6 1/2 inch speakers all around? or maybe 5 1/4 in the front ont the 6 1/2 in the back?

6.5 in front, 6.5 in the rear would be a good choice.

I can't thank you enough. Another point for Eclipse. We turned around and did the same thing in your car and it too all of 10 mins.

With proper power and some tuning, you can make the Type-R 6.75's sound pretty good. I would def pick them over the Sony's.

sure, with proper tuning, one can achieve a smoother response but if your drivers are mounted in stock locales like THE DOOR PANELS, imaging blows and staging is at your feet instead of above the hood and out at the bumper. that's where my sound materializes and it's because i built "cone-head" shaped enclosures for my illusion audio mid-bass and morel tweets from fiberglass/MDF/kitty hair filler. lastly, they are tuned via the 31band EQ portion of my pioneer DEQ-P9 DSP.

OOPS, most importantly, i failed to mention that these are mounted on the A-pillars, which IMO is exactly why i stage so high.
i can't post pics cause i just joined. what really blows, is no new thread starts for myself.
