Running Wires Through Firewall in 4th Gen

Im looking to install an amp for the first time in my 99 Maxima sometime this week. I have a friend to help, along with the internet, so i feel confident in my ability.

Where did you guys run the wires from the battery to the amp (in the trunk) through the engine firewall? I havent had time to go looking around, but it would be nice to know where you guys started.

Also, I am just thinking I will run the wires along the sides under the plastic near the door sill, and somehow in to the trunk. Any suggestions or alternate methods?

Thanks in advance.

Yes its there. But its really not a hole what you have to do first is cut the gommet thats there. Just cut it like and "x" and then push the wire inside...

If you car looking at the engine, go to the drivers side fender and look at the firewall itll be right there.

I did the same exact thing. just look to the left of the brake master cylinder.

some advise: buy a black tape and rap the red wire from inside the car all the way to the amp. also use loome wire, you can find it in big hardware store.

This help reduce the "engine noise"

Where that red wire is there was a plug, it just pops out. Properly grounded amps will take care of any type of "engine noise". Don't waist time wrapping the whole entire power wire with electrical tape it should have insulation already around it.

My thoughts exactly. Im going to try to run the rca's under the left side of the middle console, kinda tucked under the plastic, but if that doesnt work ill just run it left and under the carpet near the hood switch.

The wire in the pic is monster 4 gauge. You should be able to fit 2 gauge with no problem , but I doubt 0 gauge will go through. I also have (2) 10 gauge wires going through that whole and (3) 18 gauge wires going through. Its been cleaned up since that pic.

Alright finally got my amp/sub and now am starting the install.

I am looking in the engine firewall for the hole you are talking about, but the nearest one I can find is used for the throttle/idle pulley cable (i made that term up). Is this the right hole?

Can anyone give me a quick answer before i go dicing in to this rubber grommet?

I hate to resurrect something so old but I am having this same issue. I have a 1999 maxima and I can not find the rubber grommet mentioned in this thread. I found an indention that looks like it is made to cut into, it is a small metal circle that is in the exact position this grommet should be in. Is it ok to cut into this? And where will this come through on the other side?
