MASSIVE 500sqft. DEADENING Install...need YOUR advice!

Ok, here's what I will be installing next month for deadening:

160 sqft. Damplifier
100 sqft. Hazmat
120 sqft. Spectrum (3 gallons)
80 sqft. Sludge (2 gallons)
40 sqft. 19lb. Carpet Pad
-----------------------------------
500 SQFT TOTAL!

I will be deadening as follows:

DOORS
2 Layers Damplifier
+1 Layer Sludge
+1 Layer Hazmat to backside of door cover

TRUNK
1 Layer Damplifier
+2 Layers Spectrum
+1 Layer Carpet Padding

INTERIOR PANEL BACKSIDES
1 Layer Hazmat

WHEEL WELLS*
1 Layer Hazmat each side
+1 Layer Sludge each side
+1 Layer Carpet Padding each side

FLOOR, FIREWALL, ROOF, REAR DECK
1 Layer Damplifier
+1 Layer Spectrum (firewall only)
+1 Layer Carpet Padding (floor only)

Lemme know where and how you think I should make changes, or any other advice you can give!

Sounds awesome. I would double up on the rear deck as well as the trunk depending on the subs your are using. I am also not sure about how the application to the rear of the door panels is going to work. Maybe I am just jealous that you thought of it first.

WoW, on paper it sounds great. I would say your fine and just make sure the surface is clean and use a blo w dryer to make sure you get it stuck on there for life.

You may want to add some carpet padding and another layer to the rear deck. This is the most problomatic area

Sounds good, obviously.

I love ensolite as a final layer for doors and trunk. Absorbes acoustical energy, meaning soem of the energy from your drivers is absorbed before it even hits the metal, which of course is dampened. Sorry to sounds like a spammy sales guy. I love the stuff. Maybe some of that other stuff you mentioned does the same...thats cool....I'm sure you've read my reviews on the stickied thread, so i'll let it be

Hi that floor good n thick. It brings the soundstage down. Have fun I have two more rolls and 4 more yards of ensolite on the way. PITA..I hate deadening...get it done good, once, which you are, then play with your car system for the life of the car and it's been done....

Well, check this out - Second Skin recently came out with a new dampening material called HAZMAT. Hazmat was specifically designed to be used on plastic or other non-metallic surfaces. It does not have the heat foil shield as traditionally found in other asphalt based mats, but MAN is this stuff HEAVY. I think it's around 73 mils per sheet! I am going to be using this for the backs of the doors.

Another way you could use traditional mat would be to simply apply a layer or two of aluminum roofing tape to the back of the panel and just use a traditional mat, there are any number of permutations you can get it to work, just have to be inventive.

So you think I should add a second layer of Damplifier to the floor

I will try and weight the material tonight, I think it's around 150lbs worth of material, almost as if a single person were riding with me. I think I spent aroun $700 for everything. I purchased the majority of the material as B-stock material with a 20% discount...I think this stuff goes for around $1200 had I purchased it full price.

Yeah, I will be sure to hit that earea up real hard. I don't think that the trunk/rear deck are going to pose a huge problem seeing as how I only have a single 10" sub facing towards the cabin as opposed to the trunklid.

I think the doors (MOST IMPORTANT to dampen and seal well IMO...totally overdo your doors), trunk, rear deck, floor at the major areas to hit. Lemme give you another piece of advice not that I'm thinking of it.....

When doing this huge job, be sure to save a good portion of it for afterwards, because there always will be that one or two rattles you need to find, locate, and kill once the music turns on...so save a little...

It's about 162lbs. total material when the liquid deadener has cured. Anthony from Second Skin said that I can expect "near 7-series ambiance" with all of the deadener installed!!! I think I am going to do my trunk and one of the wheel wells this weekend, we'll see how the weather is.

I weighed my car with system and a full tank of gas and me in the car. 3600lbs. 192sq ft of deadener and, well you guys know what else I have. w/o me it was 3480lbs. There is no help for speed after you add all that weight. I can shake boogers out at 32Hz though.

I just did 1 wheel well this weekend, and WOW was it alot of work. Two layers of mat deadener, 1 layer of liquid deadener, followed by a layer of asphalt undercoating spray. It seems a bit quieter, but when you are driving around with no rear seats or anything in the trunk, it's gonna be noisy no matter what. I will have some pics up next week. I also started adding the mat to the back of some of the interior panels, so things are moving along, slowly but surely!

Using shims on the sunroof and adding weather stripping into the seals ala Housecor's method.

damn, Dan. Think you have enough material. that's some insane stuff you looking to do. BTW, who makes the damplifier and where did you get your matting from?

Yeah, it's insane AND exhausting, but it will all be well worth it in the end! Everything I purcashed with the exception of the carpet padding was bought from Second Skin Audio. The owner, Anthony Collova, is SUPER dedicated to his customers...so much so that he can be reached on his cell phone at any time should you have any questions; I must have called him at least a dozen times in the past 2 months. I highly recommend Second Skin for your deadening needs. While I was looking into my deadening I did alot of research over at CA.com, and almost everyone there recommended SS...and now I know why. Another nice thing is that you are buying DIRECTLY from the manufacturer...so you don't have the prices bumped up by having to pay some chain retailer their slice of the pie. I have only used some of the Hazmat and the Sludge thus far, but I am already super pleased with the ease of application and the adhesive. Sorry if this sounds like a plug, but like I said - I am beyond satisfied with my purchase.
