If a headunit says 220 watts...

does that mean that it'll be less loud than my stock Bose/Clarion headunit? I'm talking about this Dual HU http://www.crutchfield.com/S-jsuHS5p...chDisplay=Dual

Rather, I guess the question is what the power rating on the stock 5th gen HU?

That head unit is not putting out that much power.

It says "CD receiver with built-in amplifier (22 watts RMS/55 peak x 4 channels)", it is putting out 22 watts. The thing is that it wont be a very clean 22 watts.

Gotcha. Thanks, just as long it doesn't somehow sound quieter than the stocker. Apparently Dual is made by Samsung, I saw one yesterday in person and I fell in love with it. It looks incredible, it will so match the interior of the center console better than anything out there. If I'm not happy with it, I'll sell it and go for the Eclipse.

Keep in mind there is now standard by which companies are obligated to go by when they're doing these ratings. They can report power stats with inflated distortion, at 14.8 volts, peak and call that the power the head unit puts out. You'd be suprised how little real wattage a head unit will typically put out in real life, under normal conditions.

to the point where I wouldn't put any faith in what they report as head unit power.

I thought it was voluntary for them to do that.

I like the 12V ratings better.
