so got a 97? Dominick, this guy who makes good alts doesn't make them for that model. I used to be in contact with a company that would do one for like 600-700 or so, but thats a little pricey, and without install....

Try to find Ohio Generators and call them.

Upgrade the big three, get a nice battery, maybe some batcaps, and see ifyou still need one.

edit again: http://www.h-o-alternators.com/index.htm THIS is the company. I totally remember it now because they would only get me to a dealer, which was some guy that didn't really seem to know that much, didn'thave a shop, install..................I just had to get it through him. They said they could do a chrome one for more. The guy called me back in a few days with a lower price....but it was still too pricey for me. I'd go up to 3 or 350 for a reputable one. I hadn't heard anythign about that company or their alts, so i wasn't about to pluck over 600 plus for an alt from them.

They do seem affiliated with the right organizations, if that means anything.

Yeah for the third gen, that is the "dominick" guy. He is reputable and has a rep for doing good alts at good prices. He doesn't do them for 4th gen, though

Don do you have experience with Ohio Gens for the gen 4's? How many amps at idle/higher rpm's and how much? You're not an OG dealer are you? Direct bolt on replacement????

the $350 one would fit my needs...question for me would now be at what RPM? What's idle? I believe there's often some compromise there, like that you often have to give up one for the other. For my applications, personally, I'd like a good bit of powah at idle, and i'd sacrifice the extreme amounts of power capability when driving. May be different for others. 200 amps is a lot

Edit...also if it's a stock fit...and installation cost/warranty.....

4th gen and 5th gen alternators are suppose to be very similar in terms of fit.

how does this can am alt do at idle? I have a 5 spd so my idle is like 650 rpm or so and I live in the city so I spend a lot of time at idle.

it seems to do pretty well at idle. i dont remeber the exact numbers that art had given me but this alt seems like it will do the trick for about 2500 watts RMS for me

How did you hook up the wiring harness that came with it? stock has 2 wires and the cam-am has 3 wires.
