What Is Wrong
after hooking up my friends used SONY XPLOD 750 watt amp to my 2 12" jl audio subwoofers i noticed my subs werent hitting as hard as my one channel 300 watt alpine amp. Also they would start to fade and cutt off after driving for 5 minuetes what could the problem be. reconnected the wires over and over.

Check if the amp is going into "protection" mode when it cutts off. A signal LED will light up next to power or some other place on the amp. Sorry to say XPLOD is the problem. Sony is great for video cameras and those type of things but IMHO sux the big one in car audio. I would put money that your sony amp is rated at 750 watts at peak power. At true RMS this amp is probably lucky to hit half the power output of your alpine (why the heck did u go from alpine to XPLOD!?!?!) Anyways this is most likely sony's tell-tale signs of one of your subs being off by a little in resistance. If both of your subs aren't within I would say a half ohm of each other the amp will go into protect. It is very possible that your new amp didn't supply enough power to the subs, and in turn, blowing them or coming close. Just suggesting, but just keep in mind most people blow subs by underpowering not overpowering them. May be your prob.

What impedance are your subs? Most people do not blow their subs from underpowering them. Distortion is the main reason. Try running the amp in stereo. Sounds like you have 4ohm subs. Bridging the amp will cause the Sony to shut off. The Alpine being a mono amp will run fine under that load.
