PICS NEEDED: 6.5-inch speakers mounted on MDF rings and AM tweets in the OEM spot...

Ok, fellas...need some pics. I am going to be mounting my 6.5-inchers sooner, and I need some pics of the same size speakers mounted with MDF rings...since I am not quite sure how to put these buggers on. Also, if you guys have some pics of your tweeters mounted in the OEM position, that'd be great too. Thanks!!!

It provides a better mounting surface & SQ, esp. when sealed with a non-hardening artists clay. You know me, Mr.****...

Ah, there we go! So did the OEM panels fit over that ok? I like the d-flex pad, too.

...and, man...is that EVER a strange place for a tweeter!

Oh and you don't necessarily have to "oversize" like that but I like to. The baffle also has a few bolts in it through the door metal, from behind that can't be seen. The colorful stuff in between is non hardening clay.

Thanks for the pics, everyone! Don - that pics of Manny's ACS, did you just not use the plastic peice at all?

Great idea screwing the mounting cup in, Tim - did you use a self-tapper?

PS - Brilliant idea using the deadener around the back of the speaker.

Nah I hate the plastic, too much resonance. All MDF rings only.

When I do the deadener I do the door, then mount the rings, then deader over the ring as well.

Yeah, I did. This way I could angle the tweeters up and out a bit.

I can build out just under 2" and still get the stock panel on I think I'm about to need every bit of it too

You know I'm all about the kickpanel area The more round there, the merrier.

You may have see the DLS UR1 tweet in the pic, which is the tweet from the Iridium set, also from the UR36s set that was on it's way out when I put those mids in. The mids in that picture are Seas CA18RNX's AWESOME mids, specially for about 60 bucks a pop.

Just took them out. Actually gotta pack them up and get them ready to ship.

Here's a pic of the Seas mids on the left and the Peerless's (on the right) that I'm hoping go in my door this weekend Should have the up front bass thing taken care of

Wait... Here's mine...

Pretty much like all the others... Infinity Kappa 652.5i two-ways in the front, Reference 6002i two-ways in the back. These are just shots of the Kappas up front, but the References are mounted the exact same way...

so you guys recommend using mdf rings when installing aftermarket speakers? I was planning to install my own speakers since they charge so much at some audioi places around where i live.

When you guys put these mdf rings in did you put anything on the back side of it. The plastic pods for the 4th gen have this lip that goes over half of the back of the speaker - I'm pretty sure it's there for protection from water dripping on the speakers.

If you scroll back up to mine, you'll see that I use non hardening clay (play clay) behind it. You can see the red coming out from under the baffles. It's heavy, cheap, and will smush into any little nook and cranny that there may be when you screw in the baffle real tight, forms a seal. Recommended by Ndang/cheapboy on the forums and has ever failed me. You can get it at a Jo anne fabrics or wal mart fabric section. I usually end up finding it in bright kiddy colors. Also GREAT to coat the inside of kick panels with to reduce resonances. Like I said, it's heavy and applies thickly, easily, where you want it.

Here's an in progress pic from the other side, before attaching the baffle. Ran out of yellow, had to use a little red. When i tood the baffles off, the clay was smush flat as heck as you'd expect.

I slightly remember that plastic thing and the back covering and remember I stared at that for a little while like WTF. That things gotta go all together.

Edit again, if you meant anything on the backside of the speaker like that stock plastic thing, no I don't. Treat the door really well behind the speaker though.

Clay huh? Don got me using high temp strip caulk behind the rings and speaker itself. The ultimate seal

Sure will be fun to remove it when the time comes....hehe
