Questions about my alternator whine situation.
Questions about my alternator whine situation.
Hey everyone, I'll get to the point.
I have awful alternator whine, and I just have a few questions I want to run past you guys.
(The vehicle is a 5th gen maxima)
I mounted my Profile 1040 4 channel amp on the backside of my rear seat. I was wondering if it was a bad idea to mount it directly to the seat without any wood or mdf or rubber between the seat. I wasn't too worried because the stock black/charcoal carpet was still wrapped around that part of the seat, and just mounted the amp onto it directly with some sheetrock screws. Normally would people place something between amp and seat?
Is placing the high-low converters near the amp a good idea or bad idea? Right now the way I have it set up was that I ran speaker wire from each door to the stock speaker output wires and back to the high-low converters, which means alot of wiring, and placed the converters close by to the amp.
I also removed the ground from the seat bolt I originally had, to a new bolt and hole i made in the spare tire well, and grounded it over there, no real luck came from this.
I guess the next thing I have to do is the big 3, but I have a strong strong feeling with my luck on this, that it will not work.

Do the big 3, Ive installed it on a 5th gen and its helped firsthand on engine noise.
Yes, location of high low converters can create noise, and although I havent had this problem on many Maximas Ive done, you can always un-mount them and leave them hanging for a minute to test whether theres any interference.
But the real question at hand is, why are you running a 4 channel amp high low converted? Put the money you spend on high low converters, plus another $100, towards a deck, and Ill bet that your noise will stop and your SQ will increase tenfold. IMO, the single only reason high low converters should be used is adding a sub to a completely factory setup, when the owner never plans on adding anything else.
