To boost or not to boost.

I'm seeing in alot of threads that some of the guys on here are saying NO BASS BOOST.. Just curious as to whether any of you other guys DO use it? And any of the ones saying NO NO NO use it as well, and what reasons there are for not using it.

Thanks!

No good, man. The boost only boosts within a very small frequencey range and can cause the amp to clip at a lower volumes. With no bass boost, you have much greater control over a larger span of frequencies over a larger range of volumes...take a look at the graph and you will see what I mean...

The graph is somewhat confusing, can you give me a tad bit better of an explanation? I will be adjusting my bb this afternoon probably.

just turn it all the way down man, it is not necessary. i mean when i had my sub and had the bass boost up, i couldnt raise the volume up all the way i wanted because the sub would start to distort at really low frequency's. if you wanted a little more thump i would just play with the gains until your satisfied with the sound.

when i had my bass boost up, the bass would only travel better at lower volumes, and when i raised the volume up, the bass wouldnt travel as good, you would just hear the sub make noise, like the sub would stll thump but the bass isnt there

I agree the graph is kinda confusing at first, but just read the couple sentences he wrote before it, thats all you really need to know.

Im gonna play devil's advocate for a second. I use some bass boost and I've had no problems with it. You have to be conscious that you may end up clipping the signal at high volumes. In my case, I can have the boost up about half way and still not have problems at high volumes.
FYI: Not all bass boosts are created equally though. Mine for instance, is centered at 45hz but boosts the frequencies all the way from 30ish to 70ish hertz. I hear some people say that it makes the bass sound bad because it takes power away from the higher frequencies to supply the power to where you are "boosting." I can't tell a big difference. With the boost off, it still "sounds" the same, just not as loud. SOME other companies center their bass boosts at other frequencies, and boost smaller ranges of frequencies so you have to just try it out to see if you like it.
Me personally, with my bass all sealed up in the trunk, boost is a necessity at lower volumes or else it just sounds like I don't have a sub at all. If I had a truck and my subs were sitting right behind me, I probably would not use boost though. Don't NOT use it just because all the "experts" on the various forums (Im not necessarily talking about this one) say not to. All of these amp companies would not make it an option if it was so horrible and caused immediate damage to your subwoofers.

Yeah and thats the main reason I'm like wtf, why is everyone against bass boost? I use it in all the systems I put together for people and in all of my systems I've always used it!

i used it for awhile now with my 3 previous sub setups. no problems what so ever. but i do usually have it on 0, but turn the **** up a bit every now and then. i think some people get a little too happy with it and that's when trouble starts to pop up.
