Starting stereo over , 6th gen

Well the 2 10" subs in the rear sound like dooky. I dont see much of an improvement unless I put bigger amd more power in the trunk. I still would like use of my trunk so I have some questions. Ok I will replace all my caponent speakers. I also need a idea on how and what to put in the rear deck for some decent bass. I will be going for good sound quality over extensive bass. I dont want to hack the car up to get it. The rear seats have a plastic shell on the rear and I dont wanna drive with the seats down due to a car seat usually in the rear. What subs can fit, and some good quality that wont break my bank. Toss me some ideas. I will run 2 of three things. Either a RF P5002 amp for the subs or 2 audiobahn 4 channel amps. Help!

Hey I've got a 6th gen too! Only replace the radio for now (need MP3). But was wondering the same things. Are you going to be keeping a work log? I have yet to see any work logs regarding a complete system rebuild in a 6th gen. I would love to see pictures too! Money is a little tight so I won't be able to do anything for a while.

Sure I can. I tried 2 10's in the trunk but the bass is so muffled it almost makes you cry. The money sunk in there is almost a waist. You can hear the bass but it's not worth what was paid. I am going to just upgrade the door and rear deck and add a amp. I will keep stock HU but will be adding a carputer in the future after the stereo gets situated. Maybe we can figure things out at the same time. I also dont have unlimited cash to spend so I will go about it slowly but surely.

Sounds great. I read in the 6th gen forum (I think it was there) that the seat are thick and very well sound proofed so trying to blast thorugh there maybe a waste of time. Have you tried to remove the deck subs and leave that open, it should act as a port to vent the sound from the truck into the cabin. In my old 98SE I had two 10" JL subs and 6x9s JBL grand touring in the deck for rear fill. I notice noticed that the sub's would move the 6x9 and distort the hell out of them untill I enclosed the 6x9 in a seperate baffle. This maybe happening to you the subs in the rear deck maybe effect the subs, purely hypothetical.

I looked at what was in the rear deck last night and its just a couple 6x9's with what looks like a little amp to them. I still need to disconnect the amp attached. I pondered removing them. I might try it and see what happens. I highly doubt it will help much. I think the entire trunk muffles the sound. You would have to remove most if not all the carpet, and then the trunk would look like crap. Do you know what type of 6x9's are good for bass? I might just go that route. and remove the 10's. Upgrade the rest of the speakers and call it a day!

if you have bose in your car, then you'll have 2 8" subwoofers in the rear deck. non-bose is just 2 6x9s. i have 2 12" subwoofers in my trunk running at 400watts each. no muffle for me

Do you have pics of your set-up? I need some ideas on why my system sounds like shiznet. My system is non bose. Does the bose HU put out more power than the non bose? I am extremely frustrated with the system right now.

When I changed my HU it made a world of difference. Notice better dynamics and louder with more thump and MP3 and I have the non Bose system. I was thinking about swaping out those 6x9 for something better but as far as good freeair subs or ANY freeair subs, 6x9 and 8s I could not find any. Wondering, do they still sell them? I also want to keep my trunk. Hmmm maybe a little sawing I could mount my JL up there... just a thought.

I had a idea. I could build 2 box's to hold the 10's up to the 6x9 holes and go straight down to the floor. Then make a board to mount them together for the amp mounting. I could save space and maybe gain much needed bass. HMMM the wheels are turning.

Yeah thought about that too. I was think the frame would run down the sides by the wheel wells, that way they don't take to much real estate and an area to mount amps. As far as the volume goes the boxes could be made the length of the rear deck. Thus giving more volume and less depth into the trunk, hopefully it keeps it slim and unobtrusive. Again, just loud thinking

Well my 2 audiobahn 10's smoked yesterday. Those will be the last audiobahn products I buy. I will just stay with kicker. So now the ideas are leaning to, 2 rockford 6x9 or 2 kicker 6 in free air subs and component upgrades.

Great idea. Make sure you seal off the trunk to cut down on the waves bouncing around and cuasing cancellation.

http://audioproz.net/gallery/CLS500?page=3 Here is three 10's in the rear deck of a Mercedes. This is a very nice option for you. With a pair instead. BTW, that car sounds awesome.

I was looking at the 6x9 Subs only, for a hundred buck with very little or no modding it may be worth it... but then again I have not heard them yet and they are new. But going from stock in my 98 to aftermarket 6X9 in the rear deck made a vast improvement.

Update! I went ahead and swapped out the rear deck speakers with ks69 kickers. Polk coax in the rear doors. Havent done the fronts yet. I bought a DUAL 12" band pass box. The dual brand. I wanted the box because the ports fire into my rear deck. But you know, the subs sound pretty damn good. I think a rockford p5002 helps a little . The system is coiming along. I'll get my lazy but out there and post some pics. sound domain is free heh?

I am running a JL 500/1 amp with 2 10" JL's and the thing thumps!! Not sure how your system is setup but I couldn't be happier (besides the rattles) And I didi remove the stock subs from the rear deck, couldn't say whether it really helped out that much or not?

Also once I replaced the HU, the stock speakers definetly have come to life like -Sin- said...

what kind of box are the subs in? if they're currently in a sealed configuration, port them to get some more spl out.

I think the "problem" with newer cars, i.e maxima and altima, it is a more "luxurious car". They add more sound deadening material, not mat but padding and foam. In a recent car audio magazine they did an install on the new mustang and the seat had that plastic piece on it as well, they drilled a bunch of holes in it to help the bass pass through the seat. I've heard 2 10s in an altima se r, it was alright, but the interior soaks up bass. a decent fix is to remove the stock sub/subs to allow an easier pass through for the bass. In a new max I wouldn't go with anything less than 2 12s w/ no back modifications.. You could do some custom work to the box or back deck, I just stated easier fixes.

I have got a infinity perfect 12 in a prefab box for now running on a ppi2300 and it rocks out. I am more of an sq guy so the bass response I get out of a sealed box is more my speed. I removed the 6x9's and it sounds good. I have infinity perfects components as well up front running off of 2 ppi 275's. But by the first of the year my whole system will be Focal k2 or utopia but can't decide if I wanna spend the loot for the utopias.
