Processing.....My next step

Well after all playing around with the caraudio stuff, I've been dancing around processing. Once you spread speakers around in your car in a 4way active setup, complete control/tuning is where its at to pull things together Specially if I'm going to take this a step forward and compete some day. Between HU and amps I have everything xover, a little T/a....but its not enough-i need pinpoint control of each channel of amplication.

Here's my current setup for those that haven't seen it....i've made a few changes in the past few weeks. I'm running 3way active up front using conservative locations.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/466763/11

The car sounds really great. But I recognize it still has ALOT of potential, its definitly a SQ soundstage that can play loud with the best of them. I'm simply too far into this to not go with external processing.

So I decided to go with a not so known in car audio name, but highly regarded Pro audio/Hifi based company that makes excellent processors - home, recording studios, clubs etc...ALTO mobile line....
Alto Drive 30
http://www.altomobile.com/html/crossovers.html
And for sub processing....Alto Sub 16
http://www.altomobile.com/html/sub16.html

I'll ge getting these shortly in and taking you guys through the install, review and tuning....I'll keep ya posted

two things

1. Manny, not surprised you're moving forward. I've gotta come by when you're working and take a look at how its going
2. Don, not surprised you're a dealer of it, along with everything else under the sun.

Manny,

Great looking setup! Is that the XXK4150 that's under your passenger seat? Any issues with it rubbing against the seat or anything?

Wow, exciting stuff, man! Not suprised you're taking this to the next level, though. More than anything, I'll give ya credit for delving into this - just the mere thought of having to juggle that many cable makes my head spin.

I've been looking into processing for quite some time as well for my sq, 4-way set-up. I've was thinking about going with alto mobile but I desided to get the pioneer premier p9 combo instead. The only processor that does EVERYTHING that I want/need is the alpine f#1 processor (too much money) but my new p9 should do well.

The alto mobile processor looks really nice.

Good luck with your set-up.

Thanks. nope, plenty of clearance- it doesnt move a snudge, snug fit -but you will have to remove the seat to get it out-kind of added security, it drops in between the seat frame- cant pull it out any other way.

BTW...eventually all this gear will get show install- but i have a 1yr old now, so all my component placements have been rather stealth, less space consuming to not lose practicality....

Thank you, good luck the the P9,great unit.

Yes F1 may be the most flexible, but not for my budget, nor needs. I came to the realization that right now the only thing that is of upmost importance is XOVERS.
Neither the P9/F1 will give me the hot signal/impedance I now have with my transport.
The Alto processors will accept and put out the voltage, plus by keeping the eclipse I stay current (mp3, sirius)

Whats nice about the F1/P9 is having in dash control, but I can live without that as I am a set it and forget it type guy as far as the fronstage goes. Dont have to put a recognizable multi thousand dollar face in my dash for crooks to consider either...living in central Nj...

The Remote for the Sub 16 will allow me to have full control of the sub processor up front- this is what i'm constantly changing on the daily between program material and most needed.

I've considered getting the DRZ9255, P9, adding an Alpine H701....this route just works better for me, and the processors are realistically priced to boot- digital processing should not be skyrocketed in price this day in age. This route i get 20bit adc's/24 bit dac's up front, and the subs get their own 18bit adc/dac's processing. I get pinpoint freq Bandpass/HP/LP/, 5 band PEQ on each speaker, phase flip and gain control on each driver....the works

Plus I dig this...
"Furthermore, each output channel offers a fully variable signal compressor, a form of dynamic processing used extensively in recording studios. It provides a way of controlling the dynamic range to give a more consistent output level, so you can have the volume level high enough to hear softer musical passages above the road and engine noise without having to frantically grab the volume control on loud peaks."

It should do a killer job pulling my stage to perfection,I'm exited.

Everyone thanks for the kind words. Pics will come next week, my Drive30 is being hand assembled, tested as we speak

I agree w/ everything Manny said about all the processors. ooooh laptop control I like I like. The F1 is just out of the question due to price. I'm so glad to see that you're going to give this upgrade the processing it deserves. And yes, crossovers are the biggy (though I wouldn't mind having the EQ power you'll have and the P9 combo would give me....Maybe I'll upgrade to a P9 next summer if I need more EQ than the DRZ will give me). I also agree that processing needs to be/is on it's way cheaper. The Eclipses and Alpine combo coming out have had a big part in this, IMO....but the proper processing has come down in price a lot just over the last year.

VERY cool to hear Don is carrying Altomobile. There's been lots of talk about this product on some other forums with only one place to get it that I knew of up untill now. Hot product line they're putting out that goes right after what car audio nuts need.

Manny I've been offline because I decided to go without internet for a few months (not totally getting into the why sometimes it's just for the better), of course I'm busy as crap now that school is in (but having a great year so far...my audio and electronics club has started and is taking off, getting lotsa attention/interest....) and towards the end of the summer I started to get sick of online caraudio postings/boards. Too much talking and not enough installing, experience, help ect. I think you knew I was feeling that way.

So I'm just checking in once a day now to see if theres posts I care about. I'll post pics of my new and improved system once it's close enough to done. I'm way way too slow installing, but am at a point where I just need to clean things up, build a simple amp rack, mount amps, hook em up, clean again and again (I am not a clean installer, unfortunately, but the sound part usually goes well) and tune. This weekend plus having off the Jewish Holiday (As a jew myself, I make all my students thank me) should give me sound and tuning (I know I said this 2 weeks ago...I mean it this time) and the rest is cleaning, tuning, cleaning, tuning.....I, unlike Manny apparently, am always trying some little tweak or adjustment.

Can't wait to hear the final product. Next ECA meet well have at least 3 systems that should be "competition worthy" soundwise....Franks (IMO was there already) mine and yours.
