Active soundstage?

So can someone define what exactly this is to me? I thought it was having you're low's on one amplifier, you're mid's on another, and you're high's on another (3 different amps) is this correct?

that's mostly correct....

It means to use an active (typically powered) x-over before the amp(s) instead of a passive x-over after the amp(s).

It doesnt have to be 3 seperate amps per say, but 6 channels. Typically youll be bandpassing or "trapping" each set.

Once you go active, I promise youll never go back to passives.

You also could use a 4 channel amp for a 2-way active front stage (mids needs alot more power than tweets)
