I will be installing some subs in a 2002 Tahoe w/o BOSE but w/ OnStar

What do I do about the remote wire to turn on the amp?

 

Far as i can tell the only difference is that the SALOC has independent gains for each channel. I'm no expert but i would consider that a good thing. As for the remote turn on. I would guess you just tap the line that goes active when you turn the key to the ACC position.

 

Also can I tap the factory sub for the LOC or will I have to use the other speakers?

 

The cheaper LOC is fine. The amp turn on lead can be wired up to the power antenna lead behind the stock headunit or any acc wire. As for the wiring of the LOC, I would suggest using the stock speakers rather than the sub because the sub channel is typically filtered and you may not get the best sound out of it. You can of course try it that way first and it may work out well, but keep in mind that whatever crossover frequencies that are running to the stock sub will be run into the amp inputs as well. Most likely all high frequencies above 100hz or so will be filtered out around 6db/octave, PLUS whatever x-over setting you select on the amp. There's also always the possibility that the other speakers are crossed over at higher frequency and that would be bad for the signal going to the amp, this is why I would suggest trying it both ways and seeing which sounds the best. Ideally you want unfiltered sound going into the amp and you want to let the amp do all the frequency cutting.
