Got a little problem sub/amp related
First question is, is there any possible way to ADD resistance to my subs but keep them wired the way they are?
Current setup is soundstream 4 channel amp front channels powering my front setup and the rear bridged to my subs. Subs are dual 4 ohm subs wired up to 4 ohm mono load which really measures out to ~3.6. Problem here is that my amp does not like any load below 4 ohms when ran bridged. This is why I want to add resistance to the sub wiring. The amp cuts out completely and goes into protection mode when I turn it up too loud the current setup even though there is no distortion. If I don't run the amp bridged or run the subs in series the output goes way down from the amp and it really sounds bad then.
Sooooooooooooo anyone have any ideas?

Basically I'm thinking if I wire in a 1 ohm resistor into the + side of the speakers I'll add enough resistance for it to work... trouble is where can I find a resistor that will handle ~300-500 watts?

Man.. what kinda amp is that? I know Soundstream is good but I didn't think they were that picky. Every amp I've had did not complain about 2 ohms bridged even a V-Drive Crunch, where is your gain set at? If anything turn your gain down on the sub channels.

It's the soundstream ega4220. I've messed with the gain and all settings. I had this problem with it once before when I had it running each channel bridged to a pioneer spl1500. Really p!sses me off! I'm pretty shocked that I'm having this problem too...

sounds to me your ground is insufficent. Check your ground location make sure its sanded and the wires are not loose. Also try with the fronts unplugged and see if it still turns off. If it does then its your subwoofer wiring. Do not use an extra resistor as the subwoofer is not designed to be altered like that. This is why they have Single or dual 4, 2 or even 6 ohm voice coils so that it gives you some flexibility.

I would say the amp itself has a problem, probably faulty, I would get with a dealer if possible. Do the front channels cut out too? I would disconnect the subs and turn the volume up and see if it still cuts out. If it does, if you already ruled out ground I would say it is a power supply problem (in the amp).

With subs off/disconnected no shutting out. Anytime this amp goes into protection mode all channels shut off. I'm sure my ground is good, it probably is the amp but at this point I can't afford to get a new one and this one is well out of warranty.
