F!%@#!# Thieves!!!

As you can probably infer from the title I got jacked yesterday Came out to my car (which was parked in my driveway outside of my house under a BRIGHT street light BTW) only to find that some ***@!#% had broken out my drivers side window and made off w/ my Alpine HU

Anyway, after a police report and a call to the insurance co. (God I LOVE Allstate!) I am now starting to think about what new HU to get. I had the 2004 model CDA-9833 and i liked it (could have had a better crossover interface) but for the money it was a decent unit. But, I am looking to upgrade...any suggestions? My only requirements are 3 sets of preouts, internal crossover and SAT ready (I have Sirius). Other than that I am pretty open on features. Price range will probably be in the $4 - 500 range (depending on the check Allstate cuts for me). And FYI my current system consists of 1 800w 4-channel and 1 2000w mono (D class) amp running 2 12's.

P.S. (and off subject) I am now in the market for a Rottweiler pup (been thinking about it and this has finalized the decision for me) So, anyone that has a pup or knows a reputable breeder, shoot me a PM.

Thanks in advance for your help!

A dog is not going to do anything for you, unless you plan on leaving it to freeze and shat in your car every night. You should be thinking about what alarm your going to be putting in the car, preferably a 2 way paging alarm like the Viper 791x. I'd do that before replacing the head unit, or your just giving them something else to come and take from you.

Sorry to hear about your loss, I freakin hate thieves.

Rotti will hear the glass shattering in my driveway and make noise...then its just a simple matter of opening the door LOL Looks like this guy was on foot. Plus want some added home security to back up the Brinks alarm.

Don't have to stick w/ Alpine - just would have to switch out my Sirius tuner.....so keep the suggestions coming

go with the eclipse 8445 as suggested. amazing HU so say the least. has 3 preouts, motorzed face, 3 year warrenty, 1 year theft protection(will be replaced for free) if installed by a dealer(worth it). my practically base model eclipse has a crossover so i'm 90% positive this one will and it is sirius ready. what more could u ask for? get it!

if you are looking for a better xover than the 9833 i wouldn't recommend the 8445, rather the 8455...if you are looking into eclipses that is..

I concur on the security advice...if you are going to have anything nice in your car, at least a 2way alarm will give you some piece of mind.

I have an eclipse 8445 for sale. I want $420 plus shipping for it. I bought it in July and took it out of my car in October. It looks brand new, not a scratch on it. I have all of the original packaging as well. Before the eclipse, I had an alpine 9815 (very similar to the 9833) and I can honestly tell you the eclipse sounds ALOT better. PM me if you're interested.

The x-over isn't as nice on the 8445 but it still works good. You have to x-over the sub from the Front/Rear at the exact same frequency (not very flexible) but the 8445 still puts the alpine to shame.

Don't assume that a dog will hear glass break. I have two rotties and they don't always hear everything.

Its amazing how many people here think a rot or doberman or pitbull is going to suddenly make them safe. I'm not a dog hater, Ive been around them my whole life, I know what they can do and what they cannot. Want to keep the inside of your house safe? Sure, get a dog, MAYBE it will help. To put all your trust in a dog that SHOULD be tied up in the back yard, to protect a car out front, is just stupid IMO. If your not going to tie the dog up, and think its gonna run out and protect your car, your an idiot, and will suffer a lawsuit at the hands of whatever poor shmuck or child happens to be walking through the neighborhood and gets bit. Get the proper protection for your car, a dog is not it.

Get a good aftermarket alarm with some Hella airhorns, and install a security camera so next time you will get a glimpse of who did it......I had to go thru that when someone smashed my back windsheld only after a week of having my Max and it was parked in my driveway......hasn't happened again since....

a security cam wont do anything either, cops dont have the time nor do they care that much about who took a headunit. its happened where i live and i live in a pretty high class area. the cops just dont care.

I love my dogs, but you could walk in my house in the middle of the night and my dogs would not even get out of their bed. Alarm will help, but it really is just one of those things that just happens. If you are driving to work and some one rear ends you and totals your car, there is nothing you can do or could have done. If a theif wants something, they'll get it regardless of dog, alarm, etc. Happened to me several times before with alarms and in daylight, in good part of town and bad part of town. Basically $*it happens, and it $*^ks. Sorry for the loss, but good thing you had insurance, because cops in burgulary cases are just paperwork handlers for the insurance companies.

aha...you guys all assume that it gets cold...considering he lives in georgia...i dunno...ive heard tons of good stuff about the eclipse decks...but i know very little about them. i have a brand new alpine (got it at cost) the CDA-9855...and although i really like the interface, i have also been told that alpine reached their peak some years ago, and it seems eclipse is peeking right about now...
