Is the current Eclipse CD 8445 worth the hefty price? I am intrigued by the True Bass, and Circle Sound II. Do these really assist the sound quality?
I need to replace my old Eclipse 5440 (from 2000, I think) because it keeps giving me the INF 3 error message, but my discs are not dirty. Anyway to fix it?

Well, I am using the SRS Circle Surround thing right now (kind of experimenting). I am only running my front speakers. It helps with the image a some. It is not as good as having it in pro mode (CD8455) and totally adjusted for me with the time alignment, but at least it's decent for both passengers. Maybe if I was running rear speakers it would sound better, will try that later .
The true bass punches up the low end, supposedly without overdriving your speakers. While it is not a substitue for one, it helps some. It gives the impression of more ooomph in the bass region.
I still prefer using the unit in Pro-Mode without the SRS surround. I actually just picked up my unit for a very good price (less than what the CD8445 is usually going for). Look around as the new stuff will be coming in, and you can get good deals on the 05 gear.

Thanks for the tips. I have Boston Acoustic Rally's in the front, Eclipse 50 watt in the back, and an Alpine Flex 4 amp with 35 w rms x 4. It's not monstrous, but I easily meet my low volume demands, and I wish to avoid a subwoofer. Really just want better SQ over my old Eclipse, and I'm curious if the new features will satisfy me. Particularly the 8 volt pre-outs, and the features you mentioned. That may not even be a factor with my setup, I'm not sure...
Actually, I was looking at the $250 Eclipse models, but I simply found them hideous to look at compard to the Alpines, and then discoverd the CD 8445/8455

Definately better looking in person on all of them. Although if your going for an 8V deck, best bet is to buy it now as it wont be available soon.

Oh well that is still better than Alpine's $400 dollar unit . Seems like they have taken out the Bass Engine Pro out of it as well as dropped the preout to 2V's. One good thing I see is that it does not have that Media Expander (wasted function I thought), and instead has the BBE processor.
