Eclipse cd8454 "No Support"

Does anyone else get this error when playing burned cds? They will work for a while. Once I turn my car off and let it sit for a while, I'll get this error. If I eject the cd and put it back in, it works again. This mostly happens when it is really cold outside. I still have 1.75 years left on my warranty, but I can't live without a radio since I commute approx 2.5 hours a day.

Any one with the newer units, do you guys get this error at all?

Oh yeah, just remembered. I had called eclipse about this. They told me to use an air duster. I tried it without poking the nozle into the cd player. I just sprayed from outside. I dont know if it helped. I drive a lot with my windows down.

Finally said f-it. Just bought a 8455 from goodguys for $420 otd. Assuming eclipse gets their act together on the steering software, I should break even selling the cd8454 (after it has been serviced), pac swi-x, and 1602 remote (needed this to program the pac).

I have an older Eclipse and i've gotten that same warning, i'm not really sure what it was but i THINK it was because of it being a crappy burned Cd, i switched to a better brand of Cd's and i haven't had the issue lately. I'm not sure but i would guess the temperature change maybe affecting the media. I really only had the problem when those Cd's got hot.

I'm using imation cds and burning them at 16x. The problem occurs a lot when its cold, but just started happening since it is hot here. I took one of my cds and put it in the freezer for a few hours then put it in the cd player and it worked. Maybe I'll try a warm disc and see.

I've been having the same problem too. I'm going to have Don look at it, hopefull get Eclipse to send me a new one...or a replacement. I also get it on store bought CDs. It's really annoying to have to keep switching CDs because the CD player is on a hissy-fit. Anyone else have any insight?

Damn, that sucks. Let me know what you find out from Don. I plan on sending mine in for repair, then put it up for sale to recover my costs on the new radio.

Oh man, I'm loving the replacement. MP3 navigation is much better as it tags a number to the folder and files so I know which track I am on before the title scrolls. IR pickup is phenomenal. It works in direct sunlight AND commands from the swi-x are instant.

I'll let you guys know what eclipse says when they let me know what is up with my 8454. Anyone want to buy it when it comes back from service?

I sometimes had similar issues with mine. It only did it on burned CD's though. That HU was still a very nice one though.

YES i get it non stop with the 8454 its so aggrivating. Basically if you keep trying it will eventually pick it up. Ive tried everything it works GREAT when it wants to but some times it wont work for days. ANd yes i think that temperature is an issue in the cold it has a 95 % success rate. Theyll tell you its the INFO3 error which means the lens is dusty or its dying. Ive tried to dust it out it doesnt really help so im assuming its the lens itself and the price is like 170$ to get it fixed.. unless its under warranty.

Yeah, it had the 3 year warranty. 1.5 years of it are gone. I'm going to give eclipse a call on monday to find out how to transfer that to a new owner.

Is your unit still under warranty? If it is, why not send it in?

It is, but it's going to take over a month to get it replaced. I unfortunately drive my car for long distances and I need a radio. So.....I would rather wait on the new line of Eclipse HU's....OR splurge and go for an AVN. I still have about 2 years on my warranty so I'm ok.

Good luck when you decide to sell. I called ecplise and they dont transfer the warranty to the new user, so I'm kinda pissed about that.

I have an 8454 and I've never had that problem. Hoever the HU has been sitting in my room for about 6 months.

sidenote: I can't remember if the 8454 has a sub level control. Does it?

yeah, the 8454 has a gain control for each channel of the sub while in pro mode (3-way mode). Not sure in the regular mode.

It accepts the sony magicgate memory sticks. I dont think it accepts the pro. It should accept duo with an adapter. Its kinda useless since you can't play mp3's and wmas from it.

well i was gonna be playing WAV files anyway. So I would need a like a 2 or 4GB memory stick, for it be justified. But the only ones that are that size are the pro and the pro duo. Also, does it have to be Sony, or can it be SanDisk? Cause the prices of the Sony sticks, for some reason, are up the ***!!!!!!!!

I think either sony or sandisk will work, but this deck only supports up to 128mb.

HAHA, get an ipod and some $10 speakers. I lived like that for 3-4 weeks when my 5 channel mtx went out on me. But that was before I started doing my 2.5 hour commute. Maybe some audio gurus can correct me, but what if you just used a discman or an mp3 player and run that output straight into your rcas for your amp. I seriously would not be able to live 2 more years with that "no support" error.

haha, then that's completely pointless. A CD-R can hold 800 MB, why would anyone in their right mind use a memory stick of only 128 MB??!!!!

Well it lets you rip cds to atrac3. Its kinda cool, yet pointless as I will probably never see a need for it.

8454 is back in the car. Going to test this thing out since warranty dissappears the second it leaves my hands. Dont want an angry ebay buyer after my azz if eclipse forgot to fix something.

Its back up incase anyone was wondering:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5846913092

I ended up leaving my moonroof open by accident when it was 50 outside. Still couldn't get a "No Support" error out of it

3 years > 2 years

If I didn't have an 8455 sitting in my car, I would definitly be looking to the 8454 and at nothing else*.
