My third gen GXE takes 6.5's all around.

I obviously need a component set up front and some good 2 or 3 ways in the back. Maybe a sub but I dont need all that base.

Question is what speakers should I going for? Also considering the fact that I may add a sub later.

Right now its a toss up.
But i'm considering putting in Alpine SPR-175A for the front and Alpine SPR-172B in the back.

Second option is Kenwood KFC-P703 component set up front and Pioneer A Series 6-3/4" TS-A1795 in the back.

Any suggestions/info and guidance would be helpful. I dont wanna get into AMPS yet until i see what it sounds like with a good deck and good speakers the standard 4 speaker way.

in my opinion, do not go with the pioneers or the kenwoods...there are much better components out there...just naming some of the ones that i have heard very good things about...diamond, dynaudio, polk, infiniti.

but if you are gonna run quality components, they will require an amp or else they will sound like crap.

maybe you will want to get some quality 2/3-way speakers...there are really good ones out there that will sound decent with the head unit, but really shine once you run them with an amp.

What would you throw in these 4 6.5 slots???

Re: I need specifics....

check out the thread that i started where i guess i'm kinda askin for the same advice you are...

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=43317

i got the list of speakers on that thread from lookin through what crutchfield.com recommended...and right now, i think i might end up with polk 652a's in the front...i have heard that the polk's can run decently with just the power from the head unit(but of course they really shine with an amp). i have not decided yet on what to do with the back...i might keep it stock until the speakers give out.

hmm.. you konw if you have non bose in your car, you may really want to go with 6.75 inchers, because i bought 6.5 kenwoods and they were too small for the opening, and i had to just put padding aroudn them, which isnt very good. just ordered some kenwood p602 components today, so i guess we'll see how they sound running off the HU. late

Since I installed the speakers in my sig myself, I can tell you that 6.5"s won't fit in the back without some custom fabrication. The backs take 6.75"s and the fronts take 4x6"s, which I ditched and switched with some nice 6.75"s. All this info is if you do not have the BOSE system. Warning: the 6.75"s I have up front do not fit in the stock housing and I had to make a custom bracket, which was a good deal of work, but well worth it. The biggest speakers you can fit up front are 6x9"s and only one person on the board has done this and he said it wasn't worth the trouble. IMO go with 6.75"s in the back and a 6.5" component set in the front. The 6.75"s in the front were a tight squeeze, so I would recommend the 6.5"s. As for brands, check out JL Audio or Memphis. Their stuff is good and for a decent price.

If you plan on running deck power to them run the
Eclipse 82641 they retail for about $120.00 a pair. Or if
you plan on running an amp to your 4 6" spkrs go with
Boston RM6's retail is about $250.00 a pair. Let me know
I work for a car audio dealer I can take care of you on
price and possible shipping to your house.

3rd Gen Maxima's take 6.5" OS speakers as someone mentioned previously.

What you put in the vehicle is entirely dependent on your budget. I could recommend Dynaudio, Focal, a/d/s or many others but if your budget is under $300 for all 4 speakers I'd be wasting my time recommending these high end brands....

Hey make sure you check out those Infinity Kappas. Hard to beat as far as bang for the buck. I have had the 4x6 plates in the front of my car for six years. They sound good of the HU but are awesome when they have an amp pushing them. Like you I have decided I want componets up front and am in the process of selecting those. In the rear I have 6.5S kicker free airs. They give you excellent mid bass but I am pulling those soon as well. I think I am going to put the 6.75 Kappa 3-ways back there. I haven't been able to find the three ways but there are a bunch of two ways on e-bay for 60-80 bucks. They come with a 3 year warranty so that should tell you something about the quality right there. LOL CS

UGG don't waste your time with the 3 ways. #way coaxials are a marketing dept's plyy to get you to buy more than you really need. The 2 ways sound just as good and IMO are better SQ . The problem with 3 way coaxials is that the little midrange driver they give you is useless as a midrange and what you are actually getting is a woofer, and 2 tweeters. The extra parts required and the extra crossover needed make them not sound so good due to the additional crossover point and small midrange.

I've listened to both before.

Hey,

Go with the Infinity Kappas

60.2 cs up front = 160.00
652.1 in rear deck = 90.00

They sound great and they are not to harsh. I'm not upset.

The only thing I've heard that's not so good about the green coned Kappas is that in extremely hot conditions their cones have been known to warp.

I haven't had any problems yet, I'll let you know. Is that the heat from outside, or the heat from the usage?

That would be due to warm climates and the car being in the sun alot. A good friend of mine had this problem in his sister's car and he's in the SF Bay area.

What size are they, and how long have you had them? I might be interested if you get something else.

What do you guys think about the infinity Reference components? I was thinking about putting these in the rear deck. Will I have trouble with installing them?

The speakers in the rear deck are actually a 6.5S or 6.75 size. You can use the 6.5s, they will take a bracket or some type of filler to make them fit correctly. I'm not sure if Infinity makes the 6.75 size in their componets or not, I know they do in the regular coaxials. CS
