Alpine makes me mad

So this summer I bought the new DVa-5200 in-dash DVD player. It has a glitch that really irritates me -- the subtitles are ON by default each time you put one in. No way to turn them off permanently; only with the remote each time you play one.
Then last month they came out with the DVA-5205. Same device, but without that glitch, and they made a couple other bug fixes. The dealer says he can't swap mine out, even if I pay an upgrade fee. I guess I've been in the software industry too long, but this seems to me a BUG FIX and not an upgrade, I should get the new deck. Grrr.
Just venting,
