My brother just put in an Alpine CD player and used the Crutchfield adaptor for the Bose speakers and amp. He says that the sound isn't as good as when he had the Bose HU. Is a loss in SQ normal? Or does he just need to play with the new HU settings? Thanks.

He's in another state, so I'm trying to figure out what to have him do since I can't look at it in person for about 3 months.

I wouldnt say its 'normal' but the hu/amp(s)/speakers are all meant for each other, and the sound changes when you start interfacing. Add some basic aftermarket speakers, because Bose sucks @ss.

what alpine? mine as some great features such as selectable x overs and extensive tuning threw an eq. i can get it to sound better than the bose, but not as bassy. im still going to swap out the bose speakers/amps soon since they suck.

It's the 9847 it has 3 sets of RCA outputs and MP3. It's a middle of the road HU. He honestly doesn't really care, but his Bose HU was FUBAR so we got him a new one. He just casually mentioned that it didn't sound quite as good as before the new HU.

it probably just needs some tweaking. bose is overly simple to use and any new hu will take some time to get right. just dont crank the bass and think you can turn up the volume, it will sound bad. the bose has a lot of bass at low volume and as you turn it up the bass rolls off so it doesnt distort, it actually works well for the most part.

Cool, thanks for the help. I'll tell him to play around with it until it sounds right.
