Poor sound quality from aftermarket stereo

I installed an Alpine 9860, JL audio e4300 4 channel and a set of Alpine Component Type-R's in the front and Type-S's in the back deck, and it is not loud enough.
I have to max my deck out at 35 which is the max on the alpine deck and the stock bose system was louder.

Does anyone have an idea?

Who installed it for you? (Please don't say the Canton Jo Di's) Check to make sure the gains are set correctly. You shouldn't bring the volume above ~3/4 on the headunit, otherwise the signal will likely start to clip.

I have a ton of experience with the Type-R componenets. They are a pain to tune. Start by dialing in your gains. It will take some time to do it properly.

I have the amp installed under the passenger seat.
Could the heat vent affect it?
The gains are about set half way. I turned them up all the way when i 1st noticed the problem but it didnt make MUCH of a difference. ( the volume went up, but not by much.)

BTW circuit city did the install and used the factory bose wiring for the speaker wire.

Where did they ground the amp? (Is it bare metal on the chassis?) Make sure all the speakers are hooked up too (use the balance/fader).

He's got a point.. more importantly, installed by circuit city, which makes the wiring somewhat suspect. offhand i don't know how much power is recommended for the alpines, although as far as i know, the JL should put out about what its rated for.

I see things have not changed at CC. The one time a paid to get an amp installed it was by them. Not only did I have to rewire my stuff, I had to go back to get the actual RCA's I paid for. They gave me the cheapest ones.

The Type-S coaxials for the rear doors are fine, I would look into some new components up front.

I would check to see if they managed to wire the speakers in the correct polarity. If they used the stock wiring, it would be fairly easy to wire a couple in reverse. If the amp has an impedance switch make sure it's correct. Make sure there are no hi or low bypass settings on.
