pioneer detachable face?

pioneer detachable face?

i got the car with a pioneer deh-p4600 headunit. how the hell do I detach the faceplate on it? i'm an idiot. thanks.

It may not have detachable face. My friends 470mp doesn't.

it says that the face is detachable, but it doesn't look like it can really detach. who knows? noone with this headunit?

There should be a button on it that says open hit that. If its not that one there should be another one below or above it in the same general area.

Looks like you should be able to hit the open button then pull straight back on the face to get it off.

My Pioneer did that, but you had to also push a button on the back of the face to release it.

figured it out..just open it like you're putting in a cd then pull it straight out.

They reserve the extra push button for the motorized/ "higher end" units. The cheapies get the better release, IMO. I never did care for that button, it really seemed to flimsy.

is it common for these headunits to go bad? i think the connector between the faceplate and the unit is loose, because the screen shuts off every once in a while when i push a button. this is my first pioneer headunit, so i don't know if it's common or if there is a way to fix it easily.

It's not TOO common, but sounds like the contacts need to be adjusted/fixed.

Try cleaning them as well. I did this on an old Kenwood of mine. The display would sometimes turn off when I pushed the buttons. I used some alcohol and a q-tip. Maybe not the best combo, but the HU worked great after that.
