Speaker recommendation needed

For awhile now I've been using my Alpine 7893 HU with 2 Alpine Type S 6.5 speakers and 2 12" Alpine Type R subs. I just sold my amp with the 2 subs and am now looking for replacement 6.5 speakers. I decided I don't want subs anymore. I thought about using the factory Bose speakers with my Alpine HU, but they are kind of expensive for factory speakers. I heard my friends system in a 98 Maxima with an Alpine 7894 and teh stock bose speakers, and it sounds decent to me. So basically, I just want something comparable or slightly better to the bose speakers in terms of bass and clarity. My budget is $300.

Well really you need some kind of component set to really pull the midbass out of the speakers and to get good sound clarity. You could keep the alpines in the back running off the headunit. Then get a simple 2 channel amp and a set of comp's for the front. That would probably put you closer to the $400 - $450 range to get a decent set of comps with a small amp. To stay within the budget you'd need to find a component set that has a very high sensitivity rating.

Thanks for the help man, didn't even think of reusing the Alpines in the back.

Whoot whoot! Del Mar/Vista here!

I don't know much about car audio and am trying to learn as much as I can. I will say however that after using Infinitys', the clearity has amazed me time and time again. I can not say anything about Alpines since I have no experience with them.

I would be very gracious if someone could give me a lowdown on what car audio one day...

No problem. And I do think you should talk to Don about getting something. He will get you the best possible stuff for your budget. The fact that you are here in NJ, there's no reason for you not to go to him.

I was planning on bringing my car down after getting the 3.5 swap done by Tilley for an alarm/remote starter. Maybe I could get some speakers as well? I'll let you know when my car is done.

haha, don't worry I definitely am. 3.5 swap at Tilley's shop, then hopefully an alarm/remote starter at Don's.

Yeah, agreed. I was going to post a reply to Don last night but I guess the org went down? I couldn't get back on the site after posting a reply to you. Either way, I'll hopefully be going down soon after my car is done.

In the pearl white max. I originally wanted to sell it but figured the car is worth more to me than others, and might as well just hold onto it. I'll let you know when I'm down.
