Rear Door Spkr Upgrade '02

For those that have upgraded the stock (bose) speakers in the rear doors, what did you upgrade to?
~2 way 6.75's, Mid's only, Components?

Offhand, I'd like to add a matched set of component speakers in the rear doors (similar to the fronts) and hi-mount the tweeters somewhere on the door.

Anybody else done this? Or is this just overkill...?

gr

*BTW -- I'm planning to toss the Bose system alltogether.

overkill IMO. just throw a decent set of 2-ways coax's back there.

I don't suggest replacing the Bose speakers with any plain old speakers. They run at very different impedance levels.

yeah, tear out the bose, and don't worry about putting components in the back.

I'll clarify:
The reason I'm thinking of a set of components in the rear is that i come from the "old skool" of 6x9 three-way speakers in the rear deck. Used to have a nice set of BA's that just really were nice!
I like my highs - hi, if you know what I mean. I just can't see (hear) those wimpy-*** 6.5's in the door near the floor kicking-up any significant sound that will add to my listening pleasure.

Seriously -- has ANYBODY taken this route, or put any additional speakers in the rear deck???

Don't do it.

Sound is meant to be reproduced through a circular enclosure, not an oval one. 6.5's >>> 6x9's

If you get a set of good 6.5 coaxials and pair them with a good front stage you're set. It's more work than its worth when you already have an opening in your doors.

Rear is for fill anyway, concentrate on the front. And don't hack up your rear deck.

Not sure about the oval vs. circular thing, but I'll go with it.

I wasn't planning on hacking the rear deck, but maybe adding the tweets in the doors from the components....

You are right -- this is overkill. I swore 10 years ago, I'd NEVER get back into car stereos b/c I was sick of getting my car broken-into.

Nothing deters theft of a car stereo like the Bose Nameplate!!!
Who knows, I might just suck it up and fix the bose head unit and call it a day.

Still -- I love to tinker with stereo equipment!

Doors are another story, when flushmounted they look sweet. Check my door.

Time for an alarm so that your car is no longer broken into?
