Ok...so the budget is $200...

....and a friend of mine is looking for subs (2 x 12"). This is his sub amp. http://www.sherwoodusa.com/prod_scx1000.html He had 2 Q-Power 12's which (i have to admit) took a beating and sounded fairly decent. But he is now in the market for new subs. I'm trying to recommend something to him that will be a step up from what he had previously but within his budget. He heard 3 Kicker Comp VR's in a sealed enclosure on his amp the other day and loved them. I am not really a fan of Kicker - but, quite honestly, I don't have much experience w/ different subs so I am asking for opinions on other (possibly) better choices. his main concern is SPL....he wants to get LOUD. So, any recommendations are appreciated.

Oh and he is not concerned with warranty or buying authorized so Ebay is DEFINITELY an option.

Thanks in advance guys!

Good suggestion...and I have already told him that he would be better going with one mid level 12" or one 15" ....only thing is he has a 2 12" sub enclosure already...it's pre-fab (and cheap)...but i know he's not trying to buy another one.

So, i need some "street beater" recommendations....SQL is NOT a concern...just give me the loudest and cheapest reco's you have!!!

2 of those...make the box smaller by putting wood in there or "other" goods to make the subs seem louder by emhasizing the 50hz and up notes in songs.

cut the box in half, buy one decent 12. It will most likely outperform the pair of funky pups he will get with that budget. Let me do some searching.

If he is shaping his system around a $40 dual 12 box he already has, rather than going from sub->amp-> box like a logical system designer, then that's just wrong.

Yea....i'm guessing he would like the Premier better that the Kicker's. I haven't heard either but jsut from a specs perspective the Premiers look pretty good.

He may need two amps for those premiers though. I had a 12" premier SPL sub previously and Don buily me a box for it, I only had like 300 watts going to it at first then got a new amp and powered it with 750 rms and it took it with ease, and sounded really nice with that combo. They are really power hungry subs.

Get the new ascendant audio subs. for $95 you get a nice 12 that drops into the box. But i recomend doing what slick said..starve for a week and get the bigger sub. I do the same thing to pay my tution. I eat cup of noodles for like 2 weeks before my tuition payment is due lol. But serisously, save up up the extra money to get the arsenal. for $30 you get an extra 20% displacement over the 2 12's. And if you want to upgrade in the future, all you have to do is add another sub instead of dumping the 2 you already have and then buying 2 more.

And as far as box goes...build one. Cost me $20
