93 max gxe having amp troubles...

I have a Pioneer cq-c8401u head unit that I'm trying to run to a Pyramid pb449x amp with two 12" subs. I have the power, ground, and remote all wired. When I turn the key on, the amp gets power, then as soon as the bass goes to hit, the amp goes to protection mode until I reset the power. The amp is rated at 1000w x 1 or 500w x 2. Is there something I am forgetting or that is specific to the 3rd gen? Also my head unit has a front and rear pre-out with left and right outputs, and then a seperate set of left and right rca jacks labeled "S.W. Out" I have tried all the combinations and I can't tell any difference.

Sounds like the subs are wired incorrectly. Make sure the resistance of the subs is in the acceptable range of the amp.

the guy that had the system previously used the subs with the amp, so that shouldn't be the problem...

Ok you have a subwoofer out on the head unit, have you turned the subwoofer function on from the headunit? and play around with the settings on the HU too. Read the manual and make sure that you don't have to go into the function menu or audio menu with the unit off to get into the sub on/off selector menu.

I turned the gain down and tried to adjust it up, nothing happened. We opened the box the subs were in and the cheap *** speaker wire they used was all melted into a ball, so it might have shorted something out. Bringing in a known good amp and sub tomorrow to try to trace the problem.

The only subwoofer on/off option is to set the rear speakers to act as subs or not. There is also a subwoofer level -8 -6 -4 -2 0 +2 +4 +6 +8, I've tried every combonation...
