It'll prolly sound bettern than what you have. It would sound much better IMO if you added sound deadening, mostly to front doors, ditched the rear speakers, get a lil sub, and a four channel amp to power it all. Not trying to upsell you, but the little system I described will blow away the little system you described at just a lil more money.

K, then I'd say ditch the rear speakers, get an amp for the front speakers, and deaden them doors.

Because music is meant to come from in front of you, not behind (all around) you. It's not a home theatre, it's a stereo system. Who goes to a concert and turns around so the music is coming from behind them?

Sometimes more speakers aren't better, it's just more speakers. Leave in your crappy back speakers and run them off the deck's power, fade it out when you have no passengers in the back, turn it up for them when theyr'e back ther if you want.

My stereo system is for me to enjoy, in the drivers seat. If there's a secondary spot, it's the passengers seat. I'm not aboutmessing it up by having music coming from behind me.

(you may wanna get more opinions, cuase I just got back from happy hour TRASHED!

you are absolutely right! Finally someone agrees with what I've been saying all along. A good head unit, without all those uncessary features (ipod ready, equalizer, etc.) but with a high signal-to-noise ratio is what's important. Slap on a good amp with the same high signal-to-noise ratio and a low THD (below 0.1%), and run some front speakers off it, and, together with listening to WAV CDs (not mp3s or other compressed garbage), and you've got excellent, natural sound, the way the artist intended! Just make sure that the amp and speakers are either Eclipse, Focal, DLS, Rainbow, Diamond Audio, MB Quart, or some other high-end brand.

I tend to agree with this but I'm also starting to think that speakers that reproduce only certain frequencies coming from behind would not adversely affect the front soundstage. Midrange, highs, midbass from the front, followed by additional midbass in the rear door/deck and then the sub in the trunk. I think it would give a good transition between bass(trunk) -> and midbass(rear door/deck) -> front stage.

most car audio fanatics will tell you to ditch the rear speakers...i am a car audio fanatic and i work in a car audio store..i love the surround sound audio...with just two fronts it sounds boring.. with all 4 it sounds energetic and clear, instead of bassy...keep the rears.. add a little sub...dont go cheap on the head unit.. its what gives you your signal so the higher the signal to noise is the better.i say go with kenwood excelon...and you can possibly do better withh the speakers..
the type s speakers are around 200..so for something around that range i would go for the MBquart reference series..or Infinity kappa's..if you shop online you can get Infinity perfect's..but the internet is shady...i recomend going to a small buisness instead of best buy or whatever...best buy is sloppy and they dont know shyt.

protech makes a nice and crisp subwoofer..they have an XO series which is like 200 bucks+_ a q logic box...man its sweet..

Bah. I want to get in on this but I have to replace my ignition coils.

My 0.02 in a nutshell: ditch the rears.
