how2 replace nonBose head w/ cass. deck
I'm thinking of taking the cd/cassette/radio out of my 97 SE and putting in a changer-ready Kenwood cassette deck. How the heck do you take all that junk apart?! I know I'm going to need some kind of block or spacer to take up the extra space the orginal head unit, but somebody tell me how to do this. I refuse to pay big bucks for something that could take five minutes when you know the secrets. If anyone wants to by a cd/cassette/radio for a 97 SE, let me know. And if somebody wants to by a changer-ready Kenwood cassette deck (KRC-207S), let me know too. It puts out 35 watts into each of four channels, it has left and right RCA outputs, the little wiring harness terminal, and, of course, the terminal for any of the add-on Kenwood changers. Nothing's wrong with either of them. I got my maxima and my 87 sentra is just sitting up and I took my radio out and I think it's a waste to have the two radios.
You will need an aftermarket dash install kit, an antenna adapter and possibly a wiring harness adapter to make the job easy.
Go to www.installdoctor.com and there are instructions there on how to remove your factory deck.....

Okay thanks for the site. I will have looked at it right after completing this reply. But have you done this installation yourself? How long did it take you? Was it very frustrating?

You can get a dash installation kit that will convert that open space into a 1/2" DIN sized storage pocket. Cost would eb around $20 from your local car audio retailer. I'd look into a Metra www.metraonline.com and see what they have.
I know that you can get a pocket from www.bestkits.com model number BKTN2150 and BKUPK750 that will fit your car. These should be available from www.autotoys.com, www.ampmanaudio.com or from your local Stinger car audio accesspry dealer by special order.

I've not installed a system in a 4th generation Maxima myself.... however it's not any different than what I've done in my car adding a deck and EQ with aftermarket kits. Took me about 1 hour the first time I did it....

It's not the Bose radio particularily but it's essentially the same as far as removing the radio from the dash/console.
