I'd scan the forums (elitecaraudio.com, maybe sounddomain if you trust it) for one used (post on elitecaraudio that you're looking to buy one on the FS forum and I bet somebody has one...theres a few ID dealers on there that may have one in stock.), or if you're going to go to one of the many unauthorized places that sell them on the web, call and make sure they have them in stock first and be careful.

Unfortunately, when ID is out of a product, sometimes it takes them a bit of time to catch up. That's the main complaint you'll hear about ID. Or call them and ask how long till they are shipping them out. They can always answer that one for you.

Image Dynamics - SQ + SPL in one package

Infinity Kappa - good power handling and great sound

Infinity Beta - if you haven't heard one, you need to. They're a little delicate, but once you have the right enclosure for them, they're one of the best.

Soundstream Reference - I believe they just started making these again, but the old Reference 10's and 12's hit hard.

JL - you're all a bunch of haters, and I am too. I think they are WAY overpriced (like most subs), but the fact still is that 3 10W6's in a sealed box with 500-900 watts sounds great. The foam surround will deteriorate before too long (another reason to hate them), but they do sound good.

The biggest secret ... It's more about the box than the sub. If you have 300 watts, you can use just about any sub(s) you find, get them in the right box and they'll sound great. I mean this ... even a $15 sub from partsexpress.

Well cardomain is the only authorized internet retailer of ID and they carry a 2yr. warranty but only if you have them installed by a professional I think. If not is like a factory 90day or something.. I buying a house so getting another sub may get put on the back burner for a while

Yeah BH I agree with ya on the jl's.. Great sounding subs but way overpriced IMO..

Someone correct me if im wrong but isn't Cardomain/sounddomain the only "authorized" dealer of Image Dynamics? That is what i was told anyway. They have good service but long ship time coming from washington state.

All this information has been really enlightening. I wish I read this beofre i did my system. however, i am quite satisfied with my setup. I have one 12" alpine x type. running off of alpines v12 mrd1000. I mean for a guy like me who likes great performance without that really "loud" bass you can hear outside the car. The x type is really a good subwoofer if you ask me. Obviously, i do not know much, but the x type works well for me.

all three

IDMAX if you're looking to send tons of power to it. Otherwise, no personal experience with either, but based on reviews for SQ you'd be happy w/ either.

I'm pretty happy with the Phoenix Gold Titanium 15s I'm running now. Since they're local I've been listening to their stuff for a long time so I'm obviously partial.

I had a Diamond MacDaddy in my 3rd gen that was nice too. I've heard a lot of very nice sounding Diamonds.

Ok ill add my .02 since this is the neverending thread apparently. What about solobaric L7's??? Only one or two people mentioned them and from my experience and all of my friends that have car audio these are some of the hardest hitting subs around. Ive had JLs of several different types and they are ok.... buts thats all, just ok. Definitely overpriced for the SQ you get. Ive heard them all, the top of the line audiobahns, MTXs, pioneers, RFs, cerwin vegas, etc... and i still think that the solobaric L7s, particularly in a larger ported box, are louder and much more clean sounding. The only disadvantage is having to use quite large amounts of power to get the full potential. I have one 10 inch L7 in a wave box with 1200 peak/600 rms amp running off an optima yellow top in my extended cab hardbody pu and with the amp all the way up it will bounce a full coke can off the roof instantly. Hell the bed and the cab almost touch each other the back wall of the cab flexes out so much.

I havent had any experience with these imagedynamics subs all you guys are crazed about, but i am definitly interested now.

Its simple... L7=SQ lacking, or more work to get SQ. Im sure you can...and no its not the hardest hitting sub. Maybe in its price range...

I am personally in love Ascendant Audio Assassin 8s that I am currently installing...Have four of them that will be running of an Adire Audio revo 1500....They are so cheap right now its not even funny. The larger sizes are comparable to JL W3s....Better even. SQ is great and two of the 8s are considerably louder then my friends two JL W3 10s...Both sealed

Install thread in a couple of weeks...going stealthy this time
