Bose HU Grounded?

I recently got a 2002 Bose CD changer HU off of eBay to install in my 2000 I30. I took apart the dash, removed the old single disc Bose HU, and hooked up the 2002 HU without mounting it, just to make sure everything worked. I was able to power on and hear the radio just fine, however when I tried to insert a CD, I got a CD ERROR F0 message. I read other posts that basically say that this is the kiss of death and I should just get a new HU.

The guy I bought the HU from on eBay says that the problem may be that the HU was not grounded because I didn't completely install it. I already reinstalled my old HU and put the dash back together so I don't really feel like taking everything back apart again if I don't have to.

Is there any validity to this guy's claim about the grounding? Any ideas are appreciated.

Mounting it should have nothing to do with grounding it. I'm not sure about the wiring in a 2k2, but the HU should be grounded either by a wire in the harness or possibly the antenna. Did you have the antenna wire connected when you tried it? Worse case scenario, find a screw or bolt on the chassis and run a ground wire to it. Given that the radio works, it sounds like it is grounded.

well in the 4th gen if im not mistaking they use part of the chassis that the radio bolts onto as a ground. But He got power so that automatically assumes his ground is working. I would say try an original cd, not a burned cd as stock headunits are quite picky. If that doesnt work return it

Thanks guys - I ended up returning the HU. I couldn't even get a CD into the player as the changer door was stuck shut.
