How much Sound Deadener to buy?

I was originally gonna go with Second Skin, but it is pretty expensive. I plan to use RAAMmat BXT™. I want to do my trunk to make the exhaust note quieter inside the car and I want to do the rear deck to keep it from rattling. How many SQ ft will I need?

I also was thinking of using Ensolite® MLC Sheeting in the trunk to help keep it even quieter. Is there a cheaper foam alternative?

I might do the front doors later on so how much would they take?

Anyone know where to get discounts on this stuff?

SS damplifier is $1 more for the same sq ft. as RaamMat. shipping might be a little more because they are based in Arizona but the difference is not much if anything at all.

Go second skin..... and it depends on what all you are going to be deadening how much you need.

well Chris did like 70sqft on his trunk alone but that might be overkill. Id say 50-60 sqft for the trunk and rear deck should be sufficient.

edit: 40sqft for all 4 doors is good and SS offers a 20% discount hence the negligible price difference.

Yikes, gets expensive.
Also should I use Second Skins Overkill in the trunk? I really dont want to hear my exhaust inside the car.

It looks good but it looks like foam with adhesive on it...so IMO I would buy more deadening and do another layer rather than the foam but that is just me.

Two rolls of Raamat BXT and a few yards of ensolite should do ya fine. Not sure if it's byt the linear yard or what, but for the price he sells if for and how much you get, Ensolite from Rick/raamaudio is very well priced.

Two rolls of raamat will do what you want and then some. More is always better of course.

40 sqft for a single layer IN the tunk
15 sqft for the trunklid
8 sqft for a single layer on the rear deck. You'll want 2 on opt, 1 underneath.

Those numbers sound better. Do you think I need to do the trunk lid? I dont have any "subs" in the trunk. And what is "2 on opt"? I think I will do 2 layers on the rear deck since thats where my subs are and it rattles the most there. What do I use to stick the Ensolite/Overkill to the dampener?

When I got it from him Rick sold an adhesive spray (made by dap, if I remember correctly). That worked like a charm. Otherwise I'm sure 3m super 77 would do the trick just fine.

My subs are mounted on the rear deck too, and my trunk like does rattle, thought I think it's mostly the spoiler. Can really only hear from the outside though.

When I deaden, I always save a little for "rattling troubleshooting" incase there's that one unexpected rattle left after dampening.

I see. I dont have any rattles from the trunk because my spoiler is screwed in pretty good.

There has been in the past, but I donno about now. It was usually when a new product came out or a discount for elitecaraudio.com memebers. Drop him an e-mail and ask. He's a real nice guy and isn't the type to get offended by such a question. Tell em bboystevie sent ya and tell him what your total purchase will be. We're not buddies or anything, but I'm a long time customer of his. rick@raamaudio.com

In your situation, I wouldn't waste deadener on the trunk lid unless it became problematic then. Save some just in case.

I just spent 180 bucks, better be worth it

Ended up getting 4yards of Ensolite because that is what Rick said to get. And 2 cans of spray.

Uh...ensolite is a barrier loader, not a mass loader...

...so what this means is that you will indeed make the cabin quieter; it's not going to do a d'amn thing to eliminate rattles.

Yeah, I know. I want to use it to make the exhaust note quieter inside the car.

Oh, nice. Good choice, then.

I would be certain to hit the rear seat bottoms with at least two layers. It's amazing how much noise comes through there.

Where do you guys find the info. to pull off door panels, take out rear seats, pull out carpeting, without screwing things up and making new rattles?

The .Org is where you ask, supply some beer, and someone with some experience will help/show you the way.

Roller? I prefer the rounded end of a screwdriver, or something similar. Roller doesn't get the contours as well.

Oh man, it's freaking HOT outside. About 85 Degrees. I just got done stripping seats, deck, and trunk. I cleaned it with the degreaser so far. The spare wheel area was pretty freaking dirty. I will use the Acetone later today once it starts to cool down.

Yes but I am not used to the hot temps yet. Plus usually it is kinda breezy..
Did your 5th gen have tar/damper on the rear deck stock? I tried to clean this too so hopefully my stuff sticks to it.

Yeah, there is some pretty pathetic OEM tar dampening on the rear seats. The mat will stick just fine to that, just press real hard on the roller/

Yup it sticks pretty good. Almost done with the rear deck. Should I do 2 layers at the top? Or should I do one layer at the bottom too?

I used both, actually my thumbs too. Man I wished I had used the screwdriver on the coutoured parts from the start, as my thumbs were killing me later on that day, and the next, and the next .
