Bose Problems? Experts please step in....

Hey folks, am having a problem with my radio. I was driving and all of a sudden the sound shut off completely and the deck was still on. It's like everything was working except no sound at all was coming out of my speakers. It stayed this way until I turned the car off for awhile and restarted it later, after about 5 minutes and then it happened again. I checked my fuses and everything looks fine, I have no clue so anyone's input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

could be the common bose cut out problem...could be that bose just sucks...at least in our maxs. dump the bose, get some new speakers...is what i did...and a small 4 channel amp...the 4 speakers replicate the bass the little sub produced, and they sound great..good luck

i've got a similar problem, although it only happens while playing cds. the driver's side speakers cut off, only the right side will play. but if i turn on the radio, it's fine. one day, i hit a bump real hard and they all started playing again. the next day it was playing with the right side only again. i got so pissed off that i just hit the radio with my palm and it went back to normal. so that's what i do now if it craps out on me. it's annoying, but try it.

I guess I will have to give it a shot as I do not feel like installing a whole new system. I have been very happy with the Bose system so far and it has held up for a longtime (100K miles) so I guess whatever extra life I can squeeze out of it will be great. Come to think of it it first cut off when I hit a small bump on the freeway.....

How on earth did you get little 6.5 inch speakers to replicate the base of the sub? I spent saturday evening looking at stereo equipment and the 6.5s have NO bass at all. Did you move up to 6x9's in the rear or something?

It's a typical problem and your best bet (financially and logically) is to change out JUST your HU. Your Bose speakers/amp will actually sound a little better.

If you do change out your deck, make sure you get the proper adaptor (PAC) otherwise, your deck will send out speaker level inputs to the Bose amps, (which are expecting line level inputs.) If you do that anyways, then you will blow your bose amps, and possibly your bose speakers.

You do not need the PAC.

Use the RCA outs from your HU and splice some male RCA's into the speaker leads on the car side.

oops, I was just assuming that his HU would have one set of RCA's or none at all. But yes I agree with you said 100%.

I haven't seen a HU nowadays that doesn't have at least 1 set. If there's only 1 set, Y-adapters.

How much is a new HU?? The CD player went out in my 00 Max and the quotes I've gotten range from $150-$300 to get it fixed. The one that's $150 would require shipping.

Go to BB or CC or call Crutchfield. You can definitely find a nice head unit for like $199. If you to to CC or call Crutchfield, definitely get an Eclipse.

So it wouldn't be possible to use adaptors such as these from Crutchfield to hook a new aftermarket deck up to the existing wiring?

Right.

No adapters needed. Just a pair of male RCA's that you can cut.

also, the link you posted is for radio removal tool? All you need is a philips head screwdriver.

Do you have any pics or a write up on how I can splice RCA's onto the speaker wires?
Thanks!

I'll have to check the stickies out, should've known better. Hopefully it is my headunit as I tried beating my headunit to make it work today and it didn't work...I wonder how I can make sure it is my headunit without actually purchasing a new one....

Does anybody know if they make a 6 disc changer for the Maxima that's NOT BOSE. Planing to get rid of the Bose system. Any suggestions!

also, when you splice in your RCAs...make sure that your deck has at least 4 volt preouts, otherwise it sounds really quiet, even at full volume...my old alpine deck has 2volt preouts and tried to hookup the bose to the rcas and everything was way to quiet...got a new alpine deck with 4volt preouts...and everythings good..

So I ordered a new head unit and all the correct wiring harnesses and whatnot, and to my amazement a few days after ordering the new headunit my Bose stereo came back to life and hasn't quit since. I am not sure what the problem is but I don't want to replace my headunit if I don't need to. Has anyone experienced this and if so what was the outcome?

They're flaky. It's from a loose ribbon cable connection IIRC, which can come and go as it pleases...

Where would I check to see if there is a loose cable? If this is the case then will I be ok further down the road if I don't replace the headunit? Also if it is a loose cable then whether or not I do replace my headunit will I still have this problem?

Inside the head unit itself. If you replace the HU the problem will go away and not come back.
