Battery draining overnight

A friend of mine has a couple of jl 10's in his truck he bought from another friend. His amp which is a jbl 180.2 keeps draining the battery overnight.. I checked his wiring and everything is exactly like mine. I have never had this problem... What exactly should we check? Think the amp is just bad or has a ground problem??

Thanks again

you guys didn't connect the remote turn on to a constant 12v source did you...? sounds like the amp isn't turning off.

No the amp is connected to the remote turn-on lead coming from the hu... Also the red light on the amp is turning off with the switch and there's no power to the amp... The amp is gotta be bad or something

Disconnect the amp completely tonight and that should tell you. There may be a short in the power supply causing this even though the power light is off.

Sigh...yet another example of why to purchase from an authorized dealer with warranties intact.

Well even products that have been purchased from authorized dealers aren't necessarily the problem. In this situation there could be something else causing the power wire/amp to drain power. I had the same problem in my 240sx. Removed the ghey cap and the problem dissappeared.

Start isolating wires man. Leave power and ground with no remote overnight.

What you're trying to diagnoise is termed parasitic draw. Not really going to get into specifics, but you'll need a meter that measures current to test for this.

In general, most meters have another hole you plug the red probe to in order to test fo this. Anyhow, set the meter on DC current, take off the negative battery terminal. Attach (+) end of meter to the (-) of the battery, and the (-) of the meter to the ground cable of the car. Oh yeah, make sure everything's off...shut all doors etc.. and check for current flow. Might have to wait awhile before everything shuts off. Wait a few minutes and what you want is around 40 milliamps...which is .005 amps.
