i have a pair of Diamond Audio 6 1/2" Components that i want to install in my 2001 Maxima. However, I understand that the actual opening is larger then 6 1/2". Are there any other methods of installation besides mutilating the stock speakers? thanks in advance.

just make a plate out of 1/4" masonite that's the same size as the old speakers.. screw it into the car, then cut a hole in the center for the diameter you need for the new speakers. works great, doesn't cost much, and is more than strong enough.

(you can buy masonite at just about any hardware store)

you can also buy adapters from many car audio shops, or have them do it for you if you don't have the tools necessary.
