headunit recomendation for 5th gen

Hey guys, I have a 5the gen w/ stock headunit. Since this thing is starting to sound crappy, Ive been thinking of purchasing a decent aftermarket headunit for under $300. The only thing I really want is to be able to keep my steering wheel controls, have good sound quality, and be able to use my ipod with it. So can anybody give me a couple suggestions on what to buy? And also where to buy it?

Unless you buy used, it will be difficult to find a decent unit and retain the steering wheel controls.

Not if you get a HU that has PAC steering wheel interface adaptability.

I know that Pioneer and Eclipse do.

I have a PAC SWI-X for sale that lets you retain steering wheel controls.

LOL I know it's not good. But I am selling it cheap. if anyone is getting a pioneer, eclipse, or alpine unit I would get the ones that are made for that specific brand from PAC.

I just put a pioneer 680MP in my car and man it sounds good and the deck has ample power to run a couple pair of good 6.5's. However, all pioneers have the 50x4 but I'd go with pioneer personally.

I'm trying to do the exact same as this first post. TJROCKS, did you get any good advice?

Are there big problems going from a bose (stock) to non-bose (aftermarket) HU? Are there other bose options that can basically just add the ipod capability?
