thinking of getting DSP for my kenwood

it's a KDS-P901 5.1 DVD Surround Processor W/ EQ. will this do a better job then the HU itself? i don't really need 5.1 and DTS since i don't watch DVDs. but i was thinking that it might be better for CDs/MP3s as well????
