My driver side door speaker works WHEN IT WANTS..

I'm trying to figure out why my door speaker only works sometimes. I originally purchased my 03 max used with aftermarket speakers, but the driver door speaker wasn't working at all. One day i decided to check it out by removing the door panel and taking out the speaker.. I tested the speaker with a 9volt battery and i got no response.. i figured that since i had no money for a new speaker right away that i wuld just put it back in and reconnect it.. so i did.. now, it just works whenever it wants to. sometimes i start the car and its thumping right away.. other times i would start the car and it would be completely dead at first, until im half way to my destination and i feel the thump again. it jus works on and off. im assuming it could be something wrong with the wiring.. any suggestions?

take the speaker out, and look at the two tinsel leads that's going into the center of the cone. see if they're still intact.

Swap it out with another speaker.

Or just meter the wires and see if its getting a variable signal

If you tested the speaker with a 9v and it didn't work, doesn't that tell you it's the speaker itself?
