4th Gen Audio Advice
4th Gen Audio Advice
Okay, I've been reading up on some audio for my car. I have some questions for those more experienced with audio and maximas. So here are my questions:
1) I'd like to replace my speakers with some Alpine units. Which would you recommend? My emphasis would be on sound clarity and sound reproduction and not so much on rattling my trunk lid.
2) Should I go 6 X 9 in the rear? I'm not too worried about the install pains, just balancing the sound out. Again alpine components.
3) Subwoofer... I'd like to add some bass. Maybe a single 10 or 12. Any suggestions and what amp to match.
4) H/U. I want a unit that can run my microvision (in dash setup you know the one) and play DVD's to the screen as well as MP3's. I would like the cost to be around $300 or so.
I'd like to stick to alpine cause they are a sponsor for my car and stuff is cheap or free. I appreciate and advice.

You want a sub, THAT is going to rattle the trunk lid again unless you sound deaden. Alpine amps and subs are nice, get a type X with the MR(X)1005 or whatever the newest highest powered amp is.
So Alpines "sponsoring" you and you have to ask these questions? You mean you get some discount or they're really "sponsoring" your car? Just curious. You also said you get the stuff cheap or free, but then said you want to keep the head unit around $300 or so. Are they charging you for the head unit but not the speakers???
Well, since they're sponsoring you and everything is cheap or free, why not go with some F1 status speakers, based on the scan-speak revelators? You do want SQ right. They're all that.
Here ya go check it out....http://www.alpinef1status.com/e/products/index.html
Looks like the F1 status head unit doesn't play MP3. Is it that much of a must? Of course, you'd have to use the F1 processor too, but it's cheap or free for you so if you don't like it, you can sell it to me at huge discount.
Now, if MP3 is a must, I run a DVA 9860 (close to your budget, but have to admit, the disc read speed and song to song skip speed bothers me big time). It reads DVD (sends signal to the Microvision), CD, MP3....and of course will tune the Alpine H701 (since you're being sponsored by Alpine why not pick up their awesome processor). The DVA 9965 is higher quality, so I'd expect ift woulnd't have those delays, and also controls the processor. It's much more pricey, but maybe you can talk to your sponsors at Alpine and they can hook you up. Or ditch the Microvision and just get the IWA 200.
Here's their current head units. http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...category=AV_HU The do have some that retail for under 300 that play DVD and Mp3 that don't control the processor, but not "sponsored car" quality. You want it to sound good and it's sponsored, have Alpine get you the H701 and it's controller. It should improve your sound dramatically.
NO 6 x 9's. Sponsored car w/ 6 x 9's...NO WAY!
What types of shows are you going to do for them? IASCA/competition type stuff or other shows?
PS...there's PLENTY of room behind those kicks to go with the three way F1 status

I just bought an IVA-W200 and PXA-H701. I'm also getting their SBS-05DC DIN center channel to put right below the deck in the tray slot. A nice alternative to using a seperate LCD in the double DIN spot and a head unit below. You can also add tons of things later to the IVA-W200. It controls so many things, it's staggering.

Well I never compared brands, just went to my local nice car parts store, and found the right size and put em in. I like them a lot, mostly because they "got the job done" as far as getting those damn bars out of the way. The trunk opens "steadily", so I'm happy. If you werent paying attention, you wouldn't notice much of a difference between the way it opens with the struts as compared to the way it did with those f ing bars. (actually slower and more steady with the struts, so thats all good)The "brand" I used is called strong arm...again just what my local shop had.
Overall, happy

Thanks for the advice Bboystevie. I need to check out the links to some of that stuff. And since my car is more a track car than anything, I'm not going too crazy with the audio. But most cars, even in the "mild" classes at HIN don't get a second with stock audio.
The sponsorship part, is simply through carsponsorships.com. I tried it out to see what it's all about. It does give you access to "sponsors." You basically buy their stuff cheap, win shows, get re-imbursed if you take trophies at major events. Accent on the major.
What I have access to from Alpine is the components, not so great on H/U from them--selectionwise.
Oh, also I can get my hands on some blaupunkt stuff for the same deal.
Answer your question?
